Prayer for our Nation
2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
How appropriate and powerful is this scripture at this time in our country?
I want to concentrate on how to humble ourselves before God and how to seek His face with scripture.
Walking humbly with our God is a requirement
Micah 6:8 NIV “…And what does He require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
We can humble ourselves by repenting and confessing our sins
Isaiah 59:2 NIV “ But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”
Proverbs 28:13 NIV “ Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”
1 John 1:9 NIV “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Humility is the fear of the Lord
Proverbs 22:4 NIV “Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.”
Humility is submitting ourselves to God & obeying His word
James 4:6-8 NIV “…God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you…”
Humility is a choice on our part to be obedient to God
1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
Seeking God’s face through fasting & prayer
1 Chronicles 16:11 NIV “Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.”
Deuteronomy 4:29 NIV “But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all heart and with all your soul.”
Jeremiah 29:13 NIV “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
The fast God has chosen
Isaiah 58:6-7 NIV “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Serving others, those in need, is also a form of humility and also obedience to God.
So I hope that you will join me in fasting and prayer for our nation, to heal our land, through repentance and obedience to God. I will be doing some form of fasting with prayer for our nation on a weekly basis going forward.
Matthew 18:19-20 NIV “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
