Like a Broken Record

Broken Record

Psalm 32:3
New Living Translation (NLT)

3 When I refused to confess my sin,
my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.

Approving Myself

Like the crowing of the rooster,
Like the murmuring of the wind,
This voice that’s always debating
That emanates from deep within,

Like the cackling of some devilish crow,
Like the bleating of a helpless sheep,
Ever-complaining, Ever-criticizing,
Even when I’m deep in sleep,

The hapless wailing of a victim,
Then a raging tongue of prideful ire,
Proving myself to be blameless
Is its one and only desire,

If I could but silence it
For just a moment or two,
I might find an answer
But I haven’t got a clue,

Dear Lord, up in heaven,
If I might be so bold,
Please help me find some peace of mind
And free me from its hold.

Father,

We all argue with ourselves in a senseless debate to prove that we are right, that we have done no wrong, that we are not the bad guys. Please help us to turn all our problems, arguments, and sins over to You and let You speak truth into our hearts so we can find rest.

Thank You, Lord!

The Longing

Longing

Psalm 63:1
New Living Translation (NLT)

1 O God, you are my God;
I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you;
my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land
where there is no water.

Longing

Somewhere deep inside my soul
A yearning was always there,
It whispered to me when I woke,
I answered in my prayers,

It was never really clear just what
I was hoping that I would find,
Something just seemed to be missing
Or something was left behind,

I looked for it at every turn,
I listened to every sound,
But though I tried my very best
That something could not be found,

At times I plead with all my heart,
At times I shook my fist at the sky,
At times I simply bowed my head,
At times I wished that I could die,

Then one day I just gave up,
Laid down my silly pride,
Then You whispered softly
“My son, why do you cry?”

That Voice was all I needed,
It was why I’d searched so long,
It gave a meaning to my life
And a reason to belong.

Father,

Though we gaze upon the stars and the galaxies, though we look upon the beauty of the mountains and the flowers of the spring. Though we love and are loved here upon the Earth, we will long for You. There is nothing else that will truly satisfy.
