I Like You

Genesis 2:24
English Standard Version (ESV)

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

When I was young, and sent each day to matriculate
We could not talk or text, but had to wait
So to proclaim our undying love
On tiny scraps of paper we would shove
Notes sincere to our enamored one
Passed hand to hand, as our friends made fun
Until at last she opened up my love note
Upon which I had boldly wrote
“I like you. Do you like me?”
And sit there hopeful, yet anxiously
Until at last her answer was returned
And I’d find out if I’d been curtly spurned
But No! Who would’ve thought that I would see
“Yes, I like you, but do you like, like me?”
Well, that was all it took from that day on
And when the bell would ring I’d be gone
Down the hall to meet her by the door
And carry her books to be quite sure
That no one else would hold her hand
And that’s how our romance began
Back before the cell phone days
When love was spoken in so many ways
It’s lasted through the years of love she gave
It will last far out beyond this grave
One last note on this stone will be
“I like you, Do you like me?

Thank You for true love in this life. Without You, we would never even know what it is, much less find it.

Who Holds You in the Rhyme of Their Hand

Romans 12:2
New King James Version (NKJV)

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Rhyme Me Not

Would it be a crime
Not to rhyme
To break the meter and the time
And write unfettered and sublime
Not to mimic or to mime
To find some other pastime
You know, not full-time
But at least halftime
Not interfering with mealtime
I mean come on, we could all climb
Up on some hill in Anaheim
And have a big time
Just have a margarita with a lime
It wouldn’t cost one thin dime
We’d probably hear some wind chimes
We’ll rise above the murky slime
Wipe our feet of the gritty grime
We’ll have a big-time!
If we could all, just not rhyme
Oh well, I suppose not.

May we hear with our hearts the meter and rhyme of Your will. Let it take us up above the darkness and carry us to worlds unknown. We forsake the patterns of evil and cry out to You in letters of love. We thank You and praise You for transforming us into poems of promise.

Dignified By Love

Dignify Allie

1 Corinthians 13:4
New International Version (NIV)

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Today is National Dog Day! Smooch your Pooch!  http://www.nationaldogday.com/

You Don’t Have to Dignify Love

He’s always there when I arrive
Wagging tail and that goofy smile

He jumps on me then barks with tilted head
You’d think perhaps I’d come back from the dead

Then he wants to run and play
He almost knocks me down if I get in his way

But after a while he begins to settle down
And I take a seat and he slowly comes around

I grab the paper and catch up on the news
He lays at my feet and takes a quick snooze

Then while the family eats the evening meal
He stands beside me to see if there’s some morsel he might steal

But he knows the trick to gain a tasty tidbit
He stares, wags his tail, and whines a bit

And before I know what I have done
He has it all and I have none

But that’s ok, I don’t mind at all
It’s a price I find to be quite small

You see we all are the best of friends
And we’re thankful for the love he sends

Maybe you think it undignified
But all the family loves this little guy

Love dignifies and heals all things. Bless us all today and every day with Your love. May it flood the Earth and restore our souls. Thank You.

I’m All Nun In!

Revelation 12:11
New International Version (NIV)

11 They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.

Forces to Reckon With
(A Haiku to the Powers of Good and Evil)

An army invades
Conquerors come to enslave
But nuns inhabit

We yield ourselves to Your wisdom and Your way. We turn the other cheek and we forgive, we love, and by the power of Jesus’ blood and our tiny testimony, we will make our way Home.

Thank You.

Come Together

Romans 15:6
New International Version (NIV)

6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Get it all in order
Parallel those lines
Establish a new border
Synchronize the times

Walk the straight and narrow
Brush your teeth and floss
Like a bow and arrow
What’s the profit and the loss

Get to work each day on time
Never miss a day of school
Don’t change the meter or the rhyme
Always follow each and every rule

We are locked with one another
As we thread this path of life
It’s hard to feel like brothers
Amid such grief and strife

The rules that we are given
Seem oft to clutter up our lives
Perhaps that why we’re all driven
To find a way to more than just survive

So I look upward from this tiny sphere
Your promise I know is true
I’m bound by life so please draw near
And make me One with You

We live in fear and pride that we will “lose ourselves”. That we will not be in control. But You offer us a gift beyond measure – to be One with You and Jesus. Open our eyes and our hearts that we might realize just how much You love us and offer to us. May every person who reads this prayer be blessed by Your presence and Your promise.

Thank You so very much.

The Only Way

Visceral Rap

John 14:6
New International Version (NIV)

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Visceral Rap

Woke up this morning, and what did I find
But the daily prompt trying, to control my mind

It influenced my thinking, subliminally
By giving me an idea what my post should be

The word of the day, it came from the gut
It had me thinking ‘bout, what I was feeling but

I didn’t quite know if, it was really for real
You see, it said something ‘bout feeling visceral

I had never even heard, the word spoken before
So I opened up the Webster’s, and began to explore

The word it seems, means to feel what you are feeling
So I started out looking, at what my heart’s been concealing

Turns out that there a love, I’ve long been hiding
‘Cause when I speak about Him, people start to chiding

But I’m standing up tall now, and telling you what’s real
The Love of Jesus Christ, is a very big deal

There’s no one else in heaven, or here on the Earth
That loves you so deep, or cares so much

So give Him your heart, and start believing today
Cause if you wanna get to heaven, He’s the only way!

He’s the only way
He’s the only way
That’s right, if you wanna get to heaven
He’s the only way

Whether we are speaking in high English from a cathedral or rapping on a street corner in the hood, You are Lord and You hear Your children. Be with everyone who reads this post. We all have our problems, our needs, our desires, and You are the One and Only Solution. Be with each of us today and every day.

Thank You.

Rejoice in the Darkness

Mark 15:33
New International Version (NIV)

The Death of Jesus

33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.

Eclipsed by Love

It seems that many might think
That the Earth will soon be in a lurch
And perhaps fall from its celestial perch
When the eclipse makes the sun to shrink

The moon will come spinning around
Placing itself between us and the sun
And provide us with some spectacular fun
The effect being dark and profound

Its shadow will course over much of the planet
As it does what it has always done
Holding us in place with the help of the sun
God’s mighty team of life, we oft take for granted

So do not look up in fear today
At the sun, the moon, and the stars
Marvel instead at the Hands with the scars
That died to show us the Way

And watch and ponder the thrill
That awaits us in the heavens above
The Gift of an amazing love
Purchased so long ago on a far away hill

Your hand moves and the planets fall from the skies. You speak and kingdoms are no more. Yet we marvel most of all that You would call us friends. Be with us today and everyday. You are our Light in the darkest situations. What shall we fear?

In the Night

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Nocturnal Recitation

What might you recite
In the deep, dark dead of night
When ghosties and goblins
Come out in plain sight

When werewolves will howl
And banshees will scream
As children lie paralyzed
From nightmares and dreams

When zombies might rise
And walk right through town
While monsters might bump
But never be found

Is there anything spinning
Around in your head
That might bring you comfort
If it were said

Perhaps some special mantra
Or an incantation or spell
Might keep you from drifting
Into some hideous hell

But if you don’t mind
A simple suggestion from me
Try memorizing this short poem
I memorized when I was three

“Five little angels round my bed
One at the foot and one at the head
One to watch and one to pray
And one to take my fears away”

©2017 by William Pierce

The “Five Little Angels” poem mentioned above appears to have been written by Elsie Laraine Holding. My mother taught me this little poem as a child but I had not known who the author was until now. Strange isn’t, that we might recite something many years yet not fully understand even the simplest things about it.

You keep us in perfect peace. You are always with us and are always watching out for our every need. We praise You and thank You for every tender mercy. Please extend Your care and devotion to everyone who will read this prayer. Let Your love sweep over them and carry them away on a tidal wave that won’t stop until they are at home again with You.

May it all be so in the wonderful name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

One and Only One

I looked through the Daily Prompts for today and expected to see this appear at least a few times. Perhaps it didn’t because so many of you have seen it before. If that is the case then I am indeed glad that you have and apologize for having you see it again, but if you haven’t seen it, then I hope you will watch it and ponder the wonder of this:

One Solitary Life

Food for Thought

Matthew 4:4
New International Version (NIV)

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

My Dreams Unfurled

I had a dream of food last night
It unfurled before my eyes
All sorts of cooking concoctions
Were flying quickly by

Bags and bags of bagels
With cream cheese spread on thick
And toppings made of yummy fruit
Too many to even pick

And piles and piles of french fries
With so much ketchup they would drip
And big ole half pound burgers
And huge colas I could sip

Then came a big Maine lobster
Steamed and cooked so very fine
And a two inch thick rib eye steak
And a bottle of ice chilled wine

I was about to finished off this fine meal
With a New York style cheese cake
When my wife hit me in my head
And yelled that I’d better get awake

I’m awake! I cried and sat up in bed
My head still spinning from the blow
“What’s wrong, my dear”, I asked in fear
As she gave me a look I’ve grown to know

“All day long I’ve flirted and played
And cooked your favorite meal
And not glance or even thanks
As if it were no big deal”

And now you spend the whole night long
Drooling and dragging me near
“Just who’s this dish you think so fine
That’s got you nibbling on my ear!”

Well, I tried my best to explain the dream
But she would not listen to a word I said
So I’m wrapped up here upon the crouch
And she’s all warm in the bed

So I leave you with this stellar advice
As I lay here ever so late
“Never let your stomach rule your dreams
Or you’ll suffer a similar fate.”

We can get so wrapped up in this world and the pleasures that it offers that we miss the treasures right before our eyes. Help us to realize what is of importance and what is only foolishness. Thank You so for caring and loving us all. Bless everyone who reads this prayer and pursues Your truth.

Amen and amen.
