I Like You

Genesis 2:24
English Standard Version (ESV)

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

When I was young, and sent each day to matriculate
We could not talk or text, but had to wait
So to proclaim our undying love
On tiny scraps of paper we would shove
Notes sincere to our enamored one
Passed hand to hand, as our friends made fun
Until at last she opened up my love note
Upon which I had boldly wrote
“I like you. Do you like me?”
And sit there hopeful, yet anxiously
Until at last her answer was returned
And I’d find out if I’d been curtly spurned
But No! Who would’ve thought that I would see
“Yes, I like you, but do you like, like me?”
Well, that was all it took from that day on
And when the bell would ring I’d be gone
Down the hall to meet her by the door
And carry her books to be quite sure
That no one else would hold her hand
And that’s how our romance began
Back before the cell phone days
When love was spoken in so many ways
It’s lasted through the years of love she gave
It will last far out beyond this grave
One last note on this stone will be
“I like you, Do you like me?

Thank You for true love in this life. Without You, we would never even know what it is, much less find it.

Come Together

Romans 15:6
New International Version (NIV)

6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Get it all in order
Parallel those lines
Establish a new border
Synchronize the times

Walk the straight and narrow
Brush your teeth and floss
Like a bow and arrow
What’s the profit and the loss

Get to work each day on time
Never miss a day of school
Don’t change the meter or the rhyme
Always follow each and every rule

We are locked with one another
As we thread this path of life
It’s hard to feel like brothers
Amid such grief and strife

The rules that we are given
Seem oft to clutter up our lives
Perhaps that why we’re all driven
To find a way to more than just survive

So I look upward from this tiny sphere
Your promise I know is true
I’m bound by life so please draw near
And make me One with You

We live in fear and pride that we will “lose ourselves”. That we will not be in control. But You offer us a gift beyond measure – to be One with You and Jesus. Open our eyes and our hearts that we might realize just how much You love us and offer to us. May every person who reads this prayer be blessed by Your presence and Your promise.

Thank You so very much.

What Do You Choose to Ooze?

John 14:6-8
New Living Translation (NLT)

6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”

Each day, each hour, each moment
We are oozing
But unlike a boat with a tiny leak
We are not taking on water
We are oozing out
We ooze whatever is inside
Yes, we all ooze even love
Even compassion
Even forgiveness
But what is our main essence?
What do we most exude into the world?
And just how much?
Is our spirit trickling or do we pour out ourselves into the world?
What is the size of the hole in your heart?
Does your spirit flood out as if to try and drowned the world
In whatever it is that makes up your inner self
Or are you content to ooooozzze.
To ration out your emotions, your passions, your inspirations

Nelson Mandela said, “”There is no passion to be found playing small–in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

Nicolas Sparks said, “The saddest people I’ve ever met in life are the ones who don’t care deeply about anything at all. Passion and satisfaction go hand in hand, and without them, any happiness is only temporary, because there’s nothing to make it last.”

T. D. Jakes said, “It is your passion that empowers you to be able to do that thing you were created to do.”

So let us live our lives with passion. Let us pour out our beings into whatever it is that we believe, never settling to simply “ooze” out life in dribbles and drabs, having no real passion either inside or out.

Fill us up to overflowing with a passion for You. Let us not sit back and wait on others to do the Kingdom’s work. Make of us vessels and workers worthy of our pay. Thank You for every blessing, every kindness, every purpose laid before us. may we take hold of each and every one and turn it into our passion.

Amble With Grace

Genesis 3:8
New International Version (NIV)

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

In the Cool of the Day

The breeze was cool
And we could hear His footsteps near
In days before we heard them
And they brought to us no fear

He would come to us each day
And we’d amble down to the field
But today we choose to feed upon
The one and only forbidden meal

It seemed so good and looked so fair
While the serpent hissed with tempting guile
So we made our beds in sins’ desire
“Surely Not,” he said with a deadly smile

Then the sound of footsteps came
And we hide without a word
“Where are you?” came His gentle call
We answered but were barely heard

“We are naked, Sir, so we are covered
Clothes of leaves to hide our shame
Who has told you, you are naked!”
We both stood there and passed the blame

“Woe to you evil serpent!
On Your belly you shall crawl!
And woe to you rebellious mankind
You shall suffer an arduous fall!”

“Woman! You shall be ruled by man
And hard childbirth will be a part of life
And man who shunned his duty and his oath
Will work and sweat for naught but strife!”

And now I cast you out and bar the gate
Serpent, down below you must go
Until I send a Son for you
And He will smite you with a deadly blow

From one sin man would meet his end
Through One man salvation came
First man had all the sin
The Second took all the shame

One way and only one we have sinned
With evil we have schemed
One way and only one we are saved
By the Son we are redeemed

So very long ago we fell. We lusted after things of no value. We did not cherish our walks with You in the cool of the evening. We set in motion events that would hold dire consequences. Your Son would have to pay a heavy price to ransom us from sin’s grip. Forgive us and draw us close. If possible, please let us amble through the Garden with You, yet again.

Thank You, Lord for every loving kindness. Amen!

We Have a Foggy Notion

1 Corinthians 13
English Standard Version (ESV)

The Way of Love

13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Seeing Clearly

There is a veil that blocks our view
Fogs up our vision and makes it askew

No matter how hard we try to see
There’s something that comes between us and Thee

Try as we may and try as we might
We can’t bring You clearly into our sight

The world with its razzle-dazzle-do
Tempts us to come away from You

It’s always calling like a siren from the sea
Offering us morsels that do not come free

Money, sex, glamour, and fame
Pleasure for a moment, but forever in shame

So we hold on with faith and never lose hope
One day we’ll see You as through a microscope

With love we will be shining as You come into view
And as You have known us, we will know You

Here, amid the push and the pull, fighting against the tempting calls of the flashy world, wrestling with our fears and our weak bodies; we stop for a moment and call out to You. We struggle to see You. We have glimpses, faint images, even moments when we think we see You just as You are, but our only real idea of who You are is in looking at Jesus. He projects in all that He does and says, Your very essence and even more. He is One with You, and longs to have us at One with You both. Mercy, grace, and love beyond measure. Beyond understanding.

Thank You so, Lord. Thank You so.

Pest Control

Matthew 12:43-45
New International Version (NIV)

43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”

The Pest

He came into my house today
He laughed and made big fun of me
He swaggered and he swayed
And then he said, “This is how it’s gonna be!”

You asked me in today, my friend
And now I’m here to stay
Now your house you can’t defend
Or send me on my way

I’ll curl up here around your head
And grip your mind so tight
Every thought you’ll have, you’ll come to dread
Struggle though you might

I’ll fill the air with thoughts so dark
I’ll drain your very soul
Things will come to seem so stark
You’ll slowly lose control

The day will seem an endless chore
Whatever your hands might touch
Your dreams composed of so much gore
You’ll wish for death and such

And if by chance this house you clean
And manage somehow to drive me off
I’ll come back seven times as mean
Full of anger and then I’ll scoff

You’ll never get me out of here!
It’s your sin that is to blame
Unless, of course, I should hear
“Get out, in Jesus’ name!”

Give us eyes that see and ears that hear that we might know what is around us. We struggle with illnesses, with anxieties, with all manner of distress in this dark world. You wait only for us to ask for help. We are asking, Father, for Your strong hand to guide and protect us from the evil that awaits.
Thank You for sending Jesus. Thank You for the power in His name.

Pray to be One

Pray without ceasing background

John 17:20-23
New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

Jesus has come into Jerusalem on a donkey to the cheers of the people, “Hosanna! Hosanna!” He has had the Passover with His disciples and predicted His own death. Judas has gone to betray Him. The Disciples (He had asked them to stay awake and pray) were asleep. He has sweated blood as He fervently prays to God, our Father. Amidst all this anguish, all this fear, all this pain…He remembers all of us and prays that all of His followers, those alive at that time, and all of us to come, will be one with the Father. That we be in harmony with Him and all of creation…How can you not love Jesus? I understand that you wouldn’t love His followers. We’re not harmonized yet. We are not kind or good or loving. We fall far short of the Master, but Jesus? How can you not love Jesus? He came humbly in a manger, taught only love of God and man, healed thousands and thousands of people, and when faced with death went to a cross for us all, praying for us every step of the way.

The Promised One

He came with the star so bright
Born in a manger that special night

Wise men of old, followed, pursued
Wise men today, follow Him too

Born of a virgin, how could it be?
An angel told Joseph and he believed

Taken to Egypt and hidden away
Until Herod was no longer in the way

Appeared at the temple when He was just twelve
Amazed all the priests with the wisdom He held

“I am the Voice for Him who will come!”
John heralded His arrival with a holy baptism

Jesus did miracles and fulfilled prophesy
Told all who would listen of God’s love for you and me

Then He marched into Jerusalem for one final meal
His blood and His body would pay for the deal

One final night in the garden nearby
One final prayer and He would be off to die

He prayed for our Oneness with the Father and Him
All who would believe He would call them a Friend.

So give Him your sin and give Him your shame
He’ll take it away and give you a new name

He’ll whisper it to you throughout eternity
You’re loved and treasured by His Grace and Mercy

Thank You for sending Jesus to this dark, fallen world. Through Him and Him alone are all things made anew. We know You love us and thank You for Your great kindness.
