Choose or Lose

Luke 9:61-62
New International Version (NIV)

61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”
62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

Maybe or Not

Oh how bold I’d like to be
And make my mind up on the spot
But truth be told I’m quite tentative
Kind of wishy-washy, cold then hot

I know that’s not the better way
It gets me told off all the time
But what else can a fella do
I just can’t make up my mind

There’s just so very many choices
And people get upset with how you choose
And then all day I have to argue with them
Man! It makes me sad and blue

So tentative I have begun
And tentative I will stay
It’s the one sure thing about me
I guess, perhaps, or maybe I was born this way

Embolden us today to follow after You. You alone are the path that leads to life. May we find our way to You and decide to walk with You.

Thank You, Lord.

Psychiatrists – $100/hour, A Renewed Mind – Priceless

Romans 12:2
New Living Translation (NLT)

2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

The Worry Wart

Had a tiny spot today
That popped up on my toe
I tried my best find a way
That I could make it go

I sprayed it with some alcohol
Then scrubbed it with a rag
And painted on some olive oil
And covered it with a bag

I tried again with medicine
And soaked it in a pot
The water made it softer
But go away, it would not

Then I started worrying
Which made me feel quite ill
Then there was no sleeping
So I took a little pill

This went on for days and days
And my heart began to race
The doctor said I must find a way
To slow down my rapid pace

So I decided I would watch the news
And try to rest my mind
But soon I found I had the blues
When hate was all that I could find

I could not seem to stop my thoughts
This worry would not leave my side
So I went downtown and a gun I bought
And pondered suicide

I sat at home and pulled off my shoes
My feet propped upon the chair
And was about to end all my blues
When I noticed, it was not there

The spot was gone! How could that be?
That’s what started this whole thing!
I let my worry get the best of me
And this is what it always brings.

Be with us all. Touch the hearts and minds of everyone who is struggling with issues in this life. Help us the find Your good and perfect will for our lives and set ourselves free from the darkness in this world. Worry is a taskmaster with a long whip, a short temper, and a very long memory. May we all find a better Master. Thank You for being there for us.

If I Forget

Isaiah 65:17
New International Version (NIV)

New Heavens and a New Earth

17 “See, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered,
nor will they come to mind.

Memorize Me

A lot of folks would seem today
To have a memory loss
Dementia and Alzheimer’s
Make many squirm and toss

But I would pose another cause
That makes us all forget
There’s just too “dang” many things
To our memory we must commit

I mean, there’s a number that’s associated
With every blooming thing
And you better have them memorized
Or your life will be suffering

A driver’s license number
In my wallet where it hides
The sheriff might require it
Or to cash a check besides

If you’re 65 or older
Your Social Security number you cannot disregard
Your doctors nor insurance
Will treat you without that little card

Every doctor must bear witness
That the number is what I say
And if I give the least protest
They kick me out with a “Have a nice day!”

“Nice day? Oh sure, it’s just “peachy-keen!”
As in their lot my flat tire I try to repair
AAA says they’d come do the job
But my member number I was unable to share

And do not even dare to mention
Even with a fleeting breath
All the hundreds of computer passwords
That worry me to death

One logs me in, one logs me out
Another for every application I try to use
I know I typed the right one in
Why must it always refuse?

Please forgive me of my mental rant
I’ve very little in the way of an excuse
I’ve tried and tried to memorize
But it just seems to be no use

So I’ll just claim that I’m past my prime
And my memory needs exercise
Then have some oatmeal with my prunes
And see if perhaps my name, I can memorize?

Help me to remember Your word and Your ways for they are the path to paradise. Let me forget those things that bring me to anger and replace them with forgiveness. In forgiveness is virtue and the virtuous will see Your face. Thank You, Lord.

Oh! And just for fun…who remembers this old tune?

I Like You

Genesis 2:24
English Standard Version (ESV)

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

When I was young, and sent each day to matriculate
We could not talk or text, but had to wait
So to proclaim our undying love
On tiny scraps of paper we would shove
Notes sincere to our enamored one
Passed hand to hand, as our friends made fun
Until at last she opened up my love note
Upon which I had boldly wrote
“I like you. Do you like me?”
And sit there hopeful, yet anxiously
Until at last her answer was returned
And I’d find out if I’d been curtly spurned
But No! Who would’ve thought that I would see
“Yes, I like you, but do you like, like me?”
Well, that was all it took from that day on
And when the bell would ring I’d be gone
Down the hall to meet her by the door
And carry her books to be quite sure
That no one else would hold her hand
And that’s how our romance began
Back before the cell phone days
When love was spoken in so many ways
It’s lasted through the years of love she gave
It will last far out beyond this grave
One last note on this stone will be
“I like you, Do you like me?

Thank You for true love in this life. Without You, we would never even know what it is, much less find it.

Who Holds You in the Rhyme of Their Hand

Romans 12:2
New King James Version (NKJV)

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Rhyme Me Not

Would it be a crime
Not to rhyme
To break the meter and the time
And write unfettered and sublime
Not to mimic or to mime
To find some other pastime
You know, not full-time
But at least halftime
Not interfering with mealtime
I mean come on, we could all climb
Up on some hill in Anaheim
And have a big time
Just have a margarita with a lime
It wouldn’t cost one thin dime
We’d probably hear some wind chimes
We’ll rise above the murky slime
Wipe our feet of the gritty grime
We’ll have a big-time!
If we could all, just not rhyme
Oh well, I suppose not.

May we hear with our hearts the meter and rhyme of Your will. Let it take us up above the darkness and carry us to worlds unknown. We forsake the patterns of evil and cry out to You in letters of love. We thank You and praise You for transforming us into poems of promise.

Dignified By Love

Dignify Allie

1 Corinthians 13:4
New International Version (NIV)

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Today is National Dog Day! Smooch your Pooch!

You Don’t Have to Dignify Love

He’s always there when I arrive
Wagging tail and that goofy smile

He jumps on me then barks with tilted head
You’d think perhaps I’d come back from the dead

Then he wants to run and play
He almost knocks me down if I get in his way

But after a while he begins to settle down
And I take a seat and he slowly comes around

I grab the paper and catch up on the news
He lays at my feet and takes a quick snooze

Then while the family eats the evening meal
He stands beside me to see if there’s some morsel he might steal

But he knows the trick to gain a tasty tidbit
He stares, wags his tail, and whines a bit

And before I know what I have done
He has it all and I have none

But that’s ok, I don’t mind at all
It’s a price I find to be quite small

You see we all are the best of friends
And we’re thankful for the love he sends

Maybe you think it undignified
But all the family loves this little guy

Love dignifies and heals all things. Bless us all today and every day with Your love. May it flood the Earth and restore our souls. Thank You.

I’m All Nun In!

Revelation 12:11
New International Version (NIV)

11 They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.

Forces to Reckon With
(A Haiku to the Powers of Good and Evil)

An army invades
Conquerors come to enslave
But nuns inhabit

We yield ourselves to Your wisdom and Your way. We turn the other cheek and we forgive, we love, and by the power of Jesus’ blood and our tiny testimony, we will make our way Home.

Thank You.

Rapped Out

Too Visceral

“Well, I guess we should all try new things. Then again there’s always that old saying of, “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” Anyway, today for some odd reason I decided to try my hand at writing some “rap”. Please forgive the warped mind and sense of humor of an old man.”

Too Visceral

A man ran up to me and stuck a mic in my face
“What do you think about what just happened, here in this place?”
Well, my mind went blank but a thought soon arose
And I answered him with absolutely, “Nothing, I suppose.”

But before I could leave he confronted me again
“Come on man! That’s not a viable o-pinion!”
“You gotta speak from your heart and tell it for real?”
“What’s down in your gut, you know, visceral?”

Well, if truth was what he wanted, then I could oblige
So I spit out my gum and looked him straight in the eye
“So here’s the whole truth, that you can bank on”
I’m gonna share this with you, and then I’m gone.

“I don’t own a radio, telephone or tv”
“There’s nothing on the airways that’s opinion-free”
All of you media-types, you’re just selling your souls
You’re just helping get the wants and desires, of those in control

So don’t try to tell me, to tell you the truth
You’d sooner have the dentist come, and pull your front tooth
You’d be much better off, to hide behind the lie
And tell yourself, you’re an upfront kind of guy

Well, I guess I’m through being real and visceral
I’m sure what I’ve said, hasn’t been a big thrill
So now I’ll turn around and be on my way
And maybe come around and talk again, some other day

Some other day,
Some other day,
I’ll tell you how I feel for real,
On some other day

The Only Way

Visceral Rap

John 14:6
New International Version (NIV)

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Visceral Rap

Woke up this morning, and what did I find
But the daily prompt trying, to control my mind

It influenced my thinking, subliminally
By giving me an idea what my post should be

The word of the day, it came from the gut
It had me thinking ‘bout, what I was feeling but

I didn’t quite know if, it was really for real
You see, it said something ‘bout feeling visceral

I had never even heard, the word spoken before
So I opened up the Webster’s, and began to explore

The word it seems, means to feel what you are feeling
So I started out looking, at what my heart’s been concealing

Turns out that there a love, I’ve long been hiding
‘Cause when I speak about Him, people start to chiding

But I’m standing up tall now, and telling you what’s real
The Love of Jesus Christ, is a very big deal

There’s no one else in heaven, or here on the Earth
That loves you so deep, or cares so much

So give Him your heart, and start believing today
Cause if you wanna get to heaven, He’s the only way!

He’s the only way
He’s the only way
That’s right, if you wanna get to heaven
He’s the only way

Whether we are speaking in high English from a cathedral or rapping on a street corner in the hood, You are Lord and You hear Your children. Be with everyone who reads this post. We all have our problems, our needs, our desires, and You are the One and Only Solution. Be with each of us today and every day.

Thank You.

Trance-forming Night Visions

Ezekiel 1:15-16
The Message (MSG)

15-16 As I watched the four creatures, I saw something that looked like a wheel on the ground beside each of the four-faced creatures. This is what the wheels looked like: They were identical wheels, sparkling like diamonds in the sun. It looked like they were wheels within wheels, like a gyroscope.

Alien Trance

Last night as I lay upon my bed
I thought I was in a deep, deep trance
When I was confronted by little grey men
Who stared at me with a menacing glance

I tried and tried to sit upright
But it was to no avail
Their alien powers held me firm
As though I was in jail

Next thing I knew one raised their hand
And the room began to spin and flip
Next thing I knew I was out in space
Aboard their mother ship

I was on a cold, hard table
In a bright, bright examination room
One came at me with a big ole needle
And I thought I was gonna swoon

They stuck me here and punched me there
Then conferred, a decision then to make
When they all came back and turned me loose
And apologized for their mistake

We thought you were an intelligent breed
And perhaps you might be taught
But we find you all are way too dumb
Cause all you’ve done is fought

So we’ll take you back to your nice warm bed
And there you’ll sleep until the new day
And off you’ll go just like before
In the same old greedy, fighting way

Some of you think that we’ve come
To bring you some mighty technology
But how the heck could we do that
You’d blow yourselves into infinity

But perhaps someday we’ll try to swing back by
And fly this way again
We hope to God above
You all will learn to be good friends

You are Lord and You do whatever You choose to do and that is a very good thing. We cannot understand Your ways because they are high above our ways, but we can know that they are just and right. Watch over this great world You have created and hold onto us firmly. Bless us all with Your Spirit so that we might come to be like You. Thank You so for loving us all.
