All We Really Need

Psalm 77:3

I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help.

Why do we argue?
Why do we fight?
Why do we struggle
To prove ourselves right?

Why are we lonely?
Why are we sad?
Why are we trying
To prove ourselves mad?

Why will we insult?
Why will we protest?
Why will we chastise
To prove ourselves the best?

Why should we damage?
Why should we spurn?
Why should we ridicule
To prove ourselves unconcerned?

Why don’t we listen?
Why don’t we learn?
And prove that it’s for love
That we all really yearn.

Please be with each of us and change our hearts and minds to be guide by love and not pride. We are lonely and sick, yet think ourselves in control.

This week I’ll be taking some time off, so I’m posting some old prayers from my Mail Chimp Days. Hope you won’t mind?

Exodus 14:14

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Being silent. “That’s difficult since we all want to be noticed or praised.” I’m trying to not be so full of myself, but it’s hard to be still and not be thinking or talking. Being noticed feels like being loved… Well, almost, but not really. Being noticed brings you notoriety, being loved is much better. Love is about being cared about or even cared for. Not because of us but in spite of us.

Sit with me and let me listen. I want to do the talking, but I need to listen, so give me a powerful word to guide my life. Let Your Word and Your Word alone be the source for my life and let nothing prevent it from getting to me or from perfecting me daily.

Thank You sweet Jesus!!!!

Ask a Favor

This week  I’ll be taking some time off, so I’m posting some old prayers from my Mail Chimp Days. Hope you won’t mind?

Isaiah 66:2
New International Version (NIV)

2 Has not my hand made all these things,
and so they came into being?”
declares the Lord.
“These are the ones I look on with favor:
those who are humble and contrite in spirit,
and who tremble at my word.

We dream about being rich or being a movie star or a world class athlete. To possess a talent or beauty or skill that sets us apart from the everyday and makes us special. But what if you had a genie in a bottle and one wish only… What special thing would you ask for to set yourself apart from all the rest?

I would hope that I would not waste my one chance at reaching the top. That I would go for a serious wish…God’s Favor. Yes, it’s better by far than talent. There’s not enough money in all of creation to match it. It might be the single most precious thing you could ask for. To have not only God’s blessing, but to have Him actively pursuing your prospering in everything You do. Wow!

Please look down on us and pour out on us, Your Favor. Empower us with what we need to succeed. Turn the hearts of those that can assist us to do so. Make us pleasing to all that come in contact with us. May Your Presence go before us and follow us in all that we endeavor to do. But most of all Lord, may we be pleasing to You for the sake of our relationship and to bring Glory to Your name.

Thank You, Jesus so very, very much.

Aaaaaaaaaaah! or Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

Romans 5:1

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ

We all have our cycles, times when we are up and then down. Life is often described as a roller coaster. If that is the case, then what are our choices? We have no control of what will happen or where we go. We have only one of two options. We can sit in fear and be terrorized at every turn, or we can let go in faith, wave our hands overhead, and holler – Whhheeeeeeeeee!!!!
Faith makes all the difference in roller coasters and life.

Grant to us a heart and mind receptive of Your control. Ease our fears with Your great Love. Help us to see Your Hand upon us in times that seem so difficult or painful. Fill us with Joy knowing that each twist and turn of life is taking us Home. Home to You.

Thank You, Father and thank You, sweet Jesus for all You do and the Amazing Holy Spirit.

Ezekiel 36:26
New International Version (NIV)

26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

Pampered to Death

If we were good to them
And they were good to us
We’d all get so very pampered
We’d hardly ever fuss

I’d say “Hi” to you
And you’d give me a wave
Our mothers would be so very proud
Of the way we’d all behave

There’d be no more feuding
No more fights out in the street
Road rage would be a thing of the past
We’d yield the road to all we meet

And wars would seem so horrible
We wouldn’t spend a single dime
Instead we’d invest our hard-earned cash
On things that were sublime

Like schools for kids and free healthcare
And great jobs for us all
There’s just one tiny little hitch
And it’s not so very small

Turns out that we’re all great “pointers”
Quick to aim a finger at you and you and you
But slow to take a look in the mirror
At anything that we might do

So unless we all get brand new psyches
All that fighting will continue every day
We’re just not interested in stepping down
Cause just admit it folks – we’re not made that way

As Apostle Paul said…

Romans 7:15-20
New International Version (NIV)

15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

So Lord… “Please help me!”

Thank You!

Loosed by Love

1 Corinthians 13:1-3
New International Version (NIV)

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Got to looking at this powerful word tonight –“Without love I am irrelevant”. This is a strong statement from the Apostle Paul. He doesn’t even mention the things that we normally associate with relevance in the world, like money or fame or power. No, he cuts right to the heart of what matters to God…love. Do we possess love? Paul speaks of having prophecy, knowledge and even faith, and not just prophecy or knowledge, but ALL prophecy and ALL knowledge, and faith that moves mountains. Amazing spiritual gifts, but none of those matter though, if we don’t have love. He’s not talking about having someone who loves us, either. Rather he is talking about possessing love within us and giving it away to others. So it’s not that we are loved, but that we love others. Without possessing love and sharing it we are irrelevant in the kingdom of God. A sobering thought for all of us who spent today worried about whether Planet X would collide into the Earth or if we might go to war with North Korea. Not that world events aren’t important, but the “power plant” or “engine” of God’s kingdom is love and that love shared. It’s an old example, but a good one…”The Sea of Galilee is fresh and clean and full of life because water flows through it, but the Dead Sea is salty and stagnant because the water in it just sits. It’s the same water flowing through both, but one is full of life and the other is not.”

Love Takes Flight

Held tight it will die
Loosed it will take wing and fly
Yet always returns

Today we are faced with a decision that will change our lives. Do we choose to be filled with Your love that gives life and to pass that love on to others, or do we choose to hold on to love and watch it waste away inside? May we all choose to be relevant.

Thank You most loving Lord!

What Flavor Do You Want?

Philippians 2:13-16
English Standard Version (ESV)

13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

Life is filled with many things
Some bring pleasure
Some bring pain
Always hope that love remains

Full of flavor
Full of fun
Oh by golly
Oh by gum

Life can be adventure-filled
Exciting troubles
Exciting thrills
We’re made better by what does not kill

Full of flavor
Full of fun
Oh by golly
Oh by gum

Life can be a heart-breaker
Losing love
Losing friends
Can only trust we’ll see them again

Full of flavor
Full of fun
Oh by golly
Oh by gum

Life can be a great reward
Blessings big
Blessings small
Grateful for each and all

Full of favor
Full of the Son
Oh by golly
What I have won!

Life can be flavorful or full of grief depending on our attitude. Give us hearts and minds that are grateful for Your favor. There is no better taste in life.

Thank You, Lord for all the love.

Isn’t It Peculiar?

Exodus 23:25
New International Version (NIV)

25 Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,

A Peculiar Blessing

Isn’t it a little peculiar
And just a tiny bit odd
We’re always glad to get the sunshine
But blame all the storms on God

We imagine He sits high on His throne
And ponders up punishment that’s due
Yet He sent us His Son, Jesus
Who gave His life for me and you

The air we breathe, the food we eat
It’s all a gift from above
We never get what we truly deserve
Instead we get mercy and love

Oh sure, we don’t all drive Mercedes
Or live in mansions grand
But we’re blessed with life
We’re created by His mighty hand

So try to pause…just once a day
And thank Him that you live
And look passed all life’s troubles and woes
To all the many blessings He gives

I know, because I have seen the life of Jesus, and all the blessings that the whole Earth receives each day from Your hand…You love us! It is not Your nature to sit and send storms and disasters to punish us. You have given us life and we must live it. If we choose to live it with You, then we can live without fear or anger. May everyone who faces trouble today, face it with You. There is no greater blessing.

Thank You!

The Straight and Narrow

Revelation 12:11

11 They overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.

How to Overcome

Long before they ever died
They did not sit in the dark and cower
But made their battle over small things
Thus robbing the big ones of their power

Then when hard choices laid before them
The decision was already done
Their minds were made up long ago
And the battle already won

So train your mind and spirit
Train them every day
Then they will not turn to the right or left
But stay on God’s righteous way

Help us to stay upon the path to life. Let us not wander off and become lost among the glitter and allure of the world. May we become one with You so that we will not be overcome by evil but conquer it with Your truth and love.

Thank You, Lord. Amen!

Grateful for the Plan

Isaiah 33:15-17
New International Version (NIV)

15 Those who walk righteously
and speak what is right,
who reject gain from extortion
and keep their hands from accepting bribes,
who stop their ears against plots of murder
and shut their eyes against contemplating evil—
16 they are the ones who will dwell on the heights,
whose refuge will be the mountain fortress.
Their bread will be supplied,
and water will not fail them.
17 Your eyes will see the king in his beauty
and view a land that stretches afar.

The Maestro’s Plan

When the world seems hopeless
And God’s way you fail to understand
Do you sit and grumble
And question the wisdom of His plan

When hurricanes are swirling
And flood waters rise 8 feet tall
Do you praise Him for past blessings
Or just blame Him for it all

God’s put in place a master blueprint
Only He knows its reason or its rhyme
It’s unfolding right before our face
But just a little bit at the time

Like a mighty symphony it’s scored
With vast melodies of grace
A crescendo of love and mercy
That carries us through time and space

And we are lifted to a heavenly home
Where the music never ends
Rescued from a fate worse than death
By a Savior who calls us friends

How easy it is for our tongues to rise up in judgment, even against You. To speak as though we know what is good and evil, what is right and wrong. We are then just a slippery step away from pride, lust, coveting, envy, and every other sin. Keep us Lord from judging. From placing ourselves above You. You know what is best and You are making it unfold.

We ask Your forgiveness and mercy for judging and praise You for this amazing gift of life.  In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!
