The Promise

Hallelujah

Isaiah 7:13-15
New Living Translation (NLT)

13 Then Isaiah said, “Listen well, you royal family of David! Isn’t it enough to exhaust human patience? Must you exhaust the patience of my God as well? 14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). 15 By the time this child is old enough to choose what is right and reject what is wrong, he will be eating yogurt and honey.

Hallelujah!

Promised a savior
No matter how long it takes
His advent will come

Father,

Your word is true. Your word is fact. We celebrate his sure and certain coming.

With Eyes Wide Open

The Crown of Life

2 Timothy 4:8
New Living Translation (NLT)

8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

The Crown of Life

Simple truths are hard to handle,
They tell more than i wish to know,
i prefer a sugar coating,
i feel the sting but the venom’s slow,

i walk along with eyes closed tightly,
Seeing only what i wish,
Truth is not my cup of tea,
Nor crow my favorite dish,

A trio blind leads me onward,
In truth it’s me, myself, and I,
If it weren’t so doggone funny
i might sit right down and cry,

Dear Lord above, two truths you tell,
They’re all I need to know,
First i am a hopeless sinner,
But still you love me so,

With that i’m free of all my cares,
I can lay these fetters down,
You see me as i really am
And still grant to me to wear a crown.

Father,

You are Truth in its purest form. You are the very essence of love. Have mercy upon us all…sinners in need of grace.

Sinking to the Top

On Being Small

Matthew 20:27
New Living Translation (NLT)

27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.

On Being Small

I wanna be BIG!
And stand real tall,
Don’t wanna be tiny,
Don’t wanna be small,

Don’t wanna be second,
Sure don’t wanna be last,
I wanna be first,
It would be such a blast!

Don’t wanna take orders,
Don’t wanna follow suit,
I wanna be the leader,
Give my opponents the boot,

Don’t wanna be a spectator,
Not just a face in the crowd,
I wanna be important,
I wanna make myself proud!

So here’s a simple prayer
That I need to express,
I’m bound by a deadly sin
That I need to confess,

Pride is a parasite
That tears the soul apart,
It feeds upon lustfulness
And destroys the victim’s heart,

So strengthen me and guide me,
Help me wanna be quite small,
He who bends his will to service
Is the greatest of them all.

Father,

Bend down close today
And whisper in my ear,
Don’t let me wander,
Draw me ever near,

The sirens sing so seductively,
Don’t let it fill my heart,
Hold my hand and pull me,
Out of this world that is so dark.

Blessings Great and Small

The Song I Sing

Colossians 3:17
New Living Translation (NLT)

17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

The Song I Sing

Could it be the turkey golden?
Roasting in a silvery pan,
Or perhaps the stuffing savory,
Spicy aroma from a foreign land,

Corn and cobbler,
Beans and beets,
Rolls and cornbread,
A plethora of tasty treats,

Cakes and pies,
Coffee and tea,
And all day long
There’s football on the tv,

Could it be that’s why I thankful?
Could it be all that I desire?
Or could there be a grander blessing?
One that’s worthy to inspire,

A blessing far beyond the day,
A blessing of a lifetime,
Given life and having lost it,
You paid the price for my every crime,

That’s the thankful song I sing,
And I sing it again and again,
You loved me with a love so grand,
Had you not, where would I have been.

Father,

Thank You for sending Your son to set me free. There is no greater blessing. Nothing else to be so thankful for.

How Full Is Your Glass?

Thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:18
New Living Translation (NLT)

18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

A Simple Note of Thanks

A simple note to say how much
I appreciate this life,
The sun, the moon, and all the stars,
My family and my wife,

The food I eat,
The car I drive,
All the things I possess
That keep us alive,

My home so sweet
It’s filled with love,
Where peace descends
Like a cooing dove,

My health still good,
My back still strong,
I love this life
Whether it’ll be short or long,

And the best thing of all
Is that somehow I know,
That You hear me in heaven
When I speak down here below.

Father,

On this Thanksgiving week, I am most grateful that You are near. Thank You for every kindness.

The Unknown

Colossus

Psalm 23:4
New Living Translation (NLT)

4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.

Colossus

There before he stands again,
Arms bared and confronting me,
His wild voice mocking
And saying how things will be,

This is not the first time
Nor will it likely be the last,
He is my ever present foe,
The die that has been cast,

We meet at every corner,
Every place I try to go,
He waits to send me scurrying,
He’s done it since long ago,

Whether in the daylight hours
Or as night’s darkness presses in,
I cannot seem to lose him
And there seems no way to win,

So I am left to pull away,
To run and try to hide,
You see this giant is nothing more
Than the fear that lives inside.

Father,

Please send Your Spirit to guide us each day. Strengthen our faith so we can walk without fear. So we may walk in Your precious peace. Thank you!

Always and Forever

BFF

Proverbs 18:24
New Living Translation (NLT)

24 There are “friends” who destroy each other,
but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.

BFF

How sweet it would be to fight no more
To lay this burden down,
It matters not who’s right or wrong
But can peace somehow be found?

Is there a way set aside
Our griefs, our hurts, our pains?
To simply agree to disagree
And act like friends again,

What would it take to realize?
The treasure that we’ve lost,
When friends are no longer friendly,
How can you count the cost?

What price set you on friendship?
What value does it hold?
When did it lose its meaning,
Has it always been this cold?

So here we are with only questions
And those begat a thousand more,
Perhaps the only path to peace
Lay on a separate shore,

So walk away and don’t look back
And do not shed a tear,
Remember me as I will you
As someone I once held dear.

Father,

You are a friend like no other. Not once have You ever failed us. Not once have You left us. Not once have You not loved us. We thank You and praise You for who You are…our Friend!

The Laminator

5FBEF4E7-D134-48A2-9235-DA713604117A

The saga continues as I forge ahead with our flooring adventure. Will I be the hero or the villian? Will all be well or will I be shot down in flames? Hopefully I will be back soon with the usual postings. Until then, take care, and say a prayer.

Laminate Blues

Laminate, Oh Laminate!
When will you end?
Pulling out carpet
Until my knees won’t bend,

I got the laminate blues
I got them thru and thru
From my head to my shoes
I got those laminate blues!
I got those laminating blues!

Then there’s the underlayment
After everything’s clean,
Brushing and a’ scrubbing
Until not a speck can be seen

I got the laminate blues
I got them thru and thru
From my head to my shoes
I got those laminate blues!
I got those laminating blues!

Then you finally get
To lay that new floor down
But not until you’ve gone thru
Every single box that’s lying around

That’s why I’ve got the laminate blues
And there’s nothing that I can do
At least until this job is through
I got those laminate blues!
I got those pulling my back,
Bending my knees,
Wishing I was on a beach,
Laminating blueeeees!

Father,

Please guide our every step. May we measure twice and cut once. May we always follow after Your plan.  Thank You!

When I Look

Whos There

Psalm 147:3-5
New Living Translation (NLT)

3 He heals the brokenhearted
and bandages their wounds.
4 He counts the stars
and calls them all by name.
5 How great is our Lord! His power is absolute!
His understanding is beyond comprehension!

Who’s There

As I sit here; down below
And stare up into space,
I wonder if there’s someone else
Staring back into my face,

Someone grand and full of knowledge
Who can ride among the stars,
Or maybe someone who is just like me?
Perhaps up there on nearby Mars?

Maybe they’re a tad farther out
Eleven light years or even more?
Sitting quietly there on Ross 128 b
On a rocky, red-colored shore,

Are they short? Are they tall?
Do they dream of their own home?
Are they blue like in Avator?
Or small and funny like a gnome?

But while it’s fun to ponder this,
To wonder if ET does exist?
There is a question with far more weight
That my mind just can’t resist,

Is there in the vast beyond,
A pair of hands that made it all?
And does the face that’s looking back
Manage to hear me when I call?

Cause if it does there’s nothing else
That could ever mean a thing,
For the hands that made the universe
Are the ones to which I cling.

Father,

Though we are awed by the glory of the heavens and made speechless by the beauty of all that surrounds us, help us to never lose sight of the hands that have breathed life into everything. Thank You, Lord, for the life abundant!

There Is A Valley

Valleys

Psalm 23
New Living Translation (NLT)

1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever.

Valleys

There are valleys filled with hate
Where pain and death can both await,
Cloaked in sugar-coated lies,
Such a wickedly devilish disguise,

There are valleys lined with grief
Where worry grows in disbelief,
Where hearts and spirits both succumb
As the restless mind grows ever numb,

There are valleys of illness grim
Where we suffer loss of life and limb,
Where darkness hovers like a cloud
Patiently waiting as death’s black shroud

There are valleys filled with tears
Where our sorrows fall on deafened ears,
Where no solace can be found
As those who watch make not a sound,

But there is a valley filled with hope
Where love will pull us like a rope,
Up from the pit where evil grins
And lets us each begin again,

Yes, there is a valley sweet and fair,
Trouble cannot find us there,
In his embrace we’ll run and hide
And there all our hurts will be laid aside.

Father,

Whether up or down, left or right, deep or shallow, high or wide, You are there waiting, ever-patient, ever-seeking, ever-loving. Your gentle voice is like no other. Speak to us; Lord, and lead us home.
