Weeping May Last Through the Night

Psalm 30:5
New Living Translation (NLT)

5 For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime!
Weeping may last through the night,
but joy comes with the morning.

What is this noise heard below
Of voices, sticks, and rocks
It is the truth of those who weep
From a life of pain and hard knocks

It is the anguish of children
Led away as slaves in chains
It is the cries of weeping mothers
Standing over their baby’s last remains

It is a father as he falls asleep
Tears rolling down his sunburned face
His back near breaks from the pull of the plow
And the cut of the reins embrace

What is this noise heard above
Of thunder, swords, and steeds
It is the shouts for justice
Of angelic armies soon unleashed

When our King will come again
Like a thief without a warning
A time when all the Earth will shout
“Joy comes this very morning!”

We thank You and praise You for You have not forsaken the weak, the poor, or the helpless. That day is coming when all accounts will be settled, all pain will cease, and every tear wiped away.

A Deadly Crop

Galatians 6:7
New International Version (NIV)

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

(At 5:29:45 am on the morning of July 16th, 1945, the first atomic bomb was successfully tested at Alamogordo, New Mexico)

Way back in 1945
We lit a fuse that slowly burns,
In the early morning desert as we watched
The mushrooming of our most dire concerns,

We had unleashed a mighty power
And it brought to close an awful war,
But ever since we struck that match
There’s been terror like never before,

Some things are better left unlearned,
Some things should stay unknown,
For we are only mortal men
Who must reap what we have sown,

So we hold our breath within the dark
As nightmares take hold our dreams,
And pray we find the way to peace
Before the hawks unfold some dreadful scheme,

Dear Lord above we beg and plead,
We fall face down upon the Earth,
Please save us from our evil minds
And this darkness we have birthed.

Forgive us and save us from the darkness we have chosen.

Be Careful Where You Point That Thing

Matthew 7:1-5
New Living Translation (NLT)

Do Not Judge Others

7 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. 3 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

How very easy it is to see
The errors of someone else,
How easily we are deceived
By the transgressions made by ourself,

How glaring are the sins
Of those that we seek to blame,
How blind we are to our own,
How much greater then is our shame?

When the gavel falls in judgment,
When the judge then calls us out,
What will be our explanation?
Will there be a single doubt?

And if we fall to the floor weeping,
If we cry out loud, “Mercy Please!”
Will we hear the verdict spoken?
“As you have given, so shall you receive!”

And then we’ll be cast from the courtroom
Nevermore to stand in the light,
We won’t have His mercy to protect us
From the fear of eternal night.

Help me please to keep my mouth shut and to do right. I can’t do this without You!

Which Way Do You Turn?

Joel 2:13
New Living Translation (NLT)

13 Don’t tear your clothing in your grief,
but tear your hearts instead.”
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He is eager to relent and not punish.

At the center lies all hope,
Our choices are but two,
We can keep moving farther away
Or return without any ado,

Yes, we can move centrifugal
And go off on our own,
Or we can run centripetal
And we’ll never again be alone,

A mighty hand has made us
Then launched us into this life,
The spin we choose now will determine
Our eternal joy or strife,

So whatever you feel your situation,
Be it coming or moving away,
Know that He loves you completely,
And will welcome you home any day.

May all who read this prayer turn toward You and home. May we not stray from our path to You. Thank You, Lord!

The Stroll

The Stroll

Deuteronomy 5:33
New Living Translation (NLT)

33 Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy.

The Stroll

If I must on this path walk,
Let me not walk with fear,
It is a companion dark and grim,
A most sinister puppeteer,

He pulls our strings
Our moods to define,
He takes control
In our mind he entwines,

He lives within us
Down deep inside,
He knows us too well
We cannot hide,

So if I must on this path walk
Let me not walk with fear,
I rather take a stroll with love
Who’s come down to be with us here.

May our walk today, wherever it might lead, be in Your company. There is no better, no safer, no more glorious walk. May it last forever.

Made with Love

Made With Love

Genesis 1:26-27
New Living Translation (NLT)

26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

27 So God created human beings in his own image.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

Made With Love

White hot light igniting
In a pulse of creation grand,
From his great lips it was spoken
And then it started to expand,

Stars were sparked,
And planets spun,
Soon the clouds begat
The rainbow in the sun,

It was so very awesome
As he peered at what was done,
He said how very good it was,
“But we’ve only just begun!”,

The oceans and the mountains,
The forests and the plains,
All so very beautiful
Yet there’s one thing that still remains,

We need someone to tend it,
Someone to make it home,
Let’s give them our own image
And bless them with our shalom,

How can we give them all of that?
How can they ever learn?
We’ll let them struggle throughout life
And with our help they will discern,

They’ll start to see what really counts,
When we come down from up above,
When we are willing to give our all
To show them true agape love.

You spoke the world into being and You sustain us every day. We thank You for granting us life among the God of Life and Love.

Color Me New

Matthew 27:27-31
New Living Translation (NLT)

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

27 Some of the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into their headquarters and called out the entire regiment. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him. 29 They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it. 31 When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.

Isn’t it a funny color?
This reddish kind of blue,
That makes some of us feel all regal
Like a lion within the zoo,

Or maybe it’s more like lavender
With redder overtones,
Where we feel quite progressive
Way down deep within our bones,

And then again it can be bluer still
With a conservative sort of bent,
So we all feel we need no change
Since with the status quo we are content,

But I prefer a different blend of hues,
A shade that only heaven knows,
That sets me apart from all the rest
With a priestly, blood-red glow,

No other pigment can compare,
It is a color so pure and true,
It paints me both inside and out
All bright and shiny new.

This old world will try its best to color us as anything but Yours. Come and paint our hearts and our minds to reflect only You. Thank You, Lord!

Out of Control?

Romans 8:38-39
New Living Translation (NLT)

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Does it Seem ?

Does it seem like we live in perilous times?
Does it seem like we dare not trust a soul?
Does it seem like things can’t get any darker?
Does it seem like we’re out of control?

Out of control, oh out of control,
It seems like we’re out of control,
What can we do to make sense of it all?
When everything’s out of control,

Do you think we’re losing our minds?
Do you think we’re spending ourselves poor?
Do you think we’re never going to win?
Do you think we’re losing for sure?

Think what you will, oh think what you will,
You can surely think what you will,
What difference will it make in the scheme of it all?
But you can surely think what you will,

Can you see any hope for the children?
Can you see any hope for us all?
Can you see any hope for the planet?
Can you see any hope; big or small?

Dream all you want, oh dream all you want,
You may dream until you can dream no more,
What good are your dreams in a nightmare?
When nothing can be certain or sure.

When we face uncertainty in this world. When everyone fails us and we feel that all is lost. Open our eyes that we might see Your faithfulness. You have never left us…no not once. Thank You, Lord!

Open and Close

Isaiah 22:22
New Living Translation (NLT)

22 I will give him the key to the house of David—the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them.

Some Days I Struggle

Some days I struggle; just to make it through,
While some days I soar, but they’re way too few,

The world has no pity; when you’re playing its game,
It will build you up one day, then fill you with shame,

It will bless you with riches, you’ll feel like a king,
Then it’s gone in a moment and you ain’t got a thing,

So give me a blessing, Lord; one that will last,
Please grant me your favor; that’s all I will ask,

There’s nothing that’s better; no nothing at all,
It lifts you to new heights; yet you never will fall.

We pray and ask that You will bless us with Your favor. There is no greater asset. With it you can move mountains, open any door, and be shielded from all troubles.

Cross Words

How well I know

1 Peter 3:9
New Living Translation (NLT)

9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.

How Well I Know

How well I know the grief of strife,
I’ve had to fight seems most of my life,
I’ve never been sure just why it was so,
There are those I guess who’ll never let it go,

They fight for fun but deny it indeed,
They fight for control, their way to succeed,
They fight when peace would be much better,
They fight so much it must bring them great pleasure,

Their finger points and spreads cruel blame,
Their tongues speak poison and metes out shame,
Their hearts are cold and no longer feel,
Nothing is impossible but they’re sure hard to heal,

So forgive and forget all that’s transpired,
Don’t give evil for evil, when love is required,
We all should grant mercy; if that’s what we expect
But we don’t have to hang around; if we get no respect.

Please be with us today and every day so that we can forgive others as we ask You to forgive us. We ask You to bless all those who have wronged us and to reconcile us to them if possible.
