Even Still

Even Still

James 4:13-16
New Living Translation (NLT)

Warning about Self-Confidence

13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.

Even Still

Sometimes I think; that I must,
Whatever “must” might be,
Whether watching out for others
Or maybe just writing poetry,

My importance grows when I do,
What will happen if I don’t?
The world’s in need of what I’ve got
It’s what they surely want,

Then one day it always happens
For some reason I must relent,
And to my surprise I must admit
No one even wonders where I went,

The world keeps spinning as before,
The stars don’t come crashing to the ground,
Nothing skips a single beat,
When I’m nowhere to be found,

But what’s most amazing of it all,
It gives me such a thrill,
It’s no one less than the Lord above,
Who’s loves me even still.

Thank You for always be here. Even when I don’t see You or hear You or feel Your presence. I know You are here because You said so.

Love Is in the Air

On the Wind

John 10:27-28
New Living Translation (NLT)

27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me

On the Wind

I heard it like a summer’s breeze
Gently whispering inside my mind,
Soft and sultry was its message,
Spoken in a language oh so kind,

My joy was then released unstoppable,
My heart was filled with perfect peace,
For I had heard a Word from Him
And I knew His love would never cease,

It’s little things that mean so much
Not packages filled with gold,
You’ll know that’s the honest truth
When you’re sick or getting old,

So listen when the Spirit speaks,
Lend an ear when you get the chance,
It’s not every day when we stop to hear
The heavenly invitation to romance.

Please help us to stop each day and listen to Your invitation to life and love.

The River of God

The Stream

Revelation 22:1-5
New Living Translation (NLT)

22 Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. 3 No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. 4 And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. 5 And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.

The Stream

Cool water babbles and bubbles,
Delicately calling me near,
I sit by the bank and listen
As the soft sounds tickle my ears,

The breeze rustles through the fall leaves,
The colors dazzle my eyes,
Reds, browns and yellows
Contrasting the azure blue skies,

Toes caressed by the current,
Fond boyhood memories abound
Of holding the hand of my first love,
As the ripples give off their sweet sound,

If my visit was not such a bittersweet moment,
If I could linger and offer up thanks,
Then my soul would be healed of its sickness
As I walked along these beautiful banks,

There’s nothing that peace can’t recover,
There’s nothing his hand can’t restore,
If we just take time to bathe in the beauty
That resides on that heavenly shore.

Help us to return to our first love. To embrace You in all that we do. There’s healing that lives in Your presence where Your love comes shining through.

The Hand Behind

Psalm 107:28-31
New Living Translation (NLT)

28 “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
29 He calmed the storm to a whisper
and stilled the waves.
30 What a blessing was that stillness
as he brought them safely into harbor!
31 Let them praise the Lord for his great love
and for the wonderful things he has done for them.

Born from a heavenly anvil,
God’s mighty hammer strikes fire amid the dark skies,
Thunder then rumbles an answer
While the bright lightning dazzles the eyes,

Rain pours down from the cloud banks
Like silvery coins it glimmers and shines,
Refreshing the parched earth below them
A gift that’s both physical and divine,

Why do I stare with such wonder?
Why do I relish each flash?
Is it the thrill of the terrible light show?
Or the hand behind every crash?

Let not the heavens mesmerize me!
Let not me worship in vain!
The skies are filled with great glory,
But when they’re gone only he will remain.

We gladly thank You and give You praise for the power You display in the heavens and the love You reveal in all of our lives.

Grasses of the Field

Matthew 6:28-34
New Living Translation (NLT)

28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Quick to sprout from soil so poor,
Prolific little buds,
Paint the fields with color
Like some radiant, golden flood,

They thrill the eyes and nostrils,
Fragrant droplets of spring sunshine,
They get burned into our memories
And imprinted on our minds,

Such a simple, little flower,
They suddenly appear before our eyes,
And thrill us with their beauty
Before they quickly die,

Such is life, let’s face the fact,
We all will meet a sure demise,
So let’s ponder their creator
And the hands that laid the skies,

If so much beauty lies within
The blossoming of some weeds,
Would not the one who formed them
Be all we ever need?

You are the “Be All” / “End All”. With You there is life abundant, but without You…there is nothing. Help us all to be what You would have us be and blossom wherever You plant us.

Match Made In Heaven

Holding Hearts

Ephesians 5:25-33
New Living Translation (NLT)

25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. 30 And we are members of his body. 31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Holding Hearts

When some lovers walk beneath the moon
They hold hearts; not merely hands,
And I think that heaven leans in close
So they can hear the angel bands,

And the moon seems to glow much brighter
While the planets dance across the skies,
Or maybe it’s just the stardust
That’s fallen into their eyes,

And their hearts will beat much faster
And maybe even skip a beat,
It happens every single time
That their eyes should chance to meet,

And if they pause their winsome walk
And partake of a lover’s kiss,
Their souls will be locked forever
In an eternal state of bliss,

You see, holding hearts is different
Than merely holding hands,
And only those who’ve done it
Can ever understand.

You set before the world Your perfect ways. May we embrace them and be made whole. Thank You!

Happy Is

Proverbs 22:7
New Living Translation (NLT)

7 Just as the rich rule the poor,
so the borrower is servant to the lender.

Happy Is

Happy is the one who lives
Within their own means,
Who does not spend next week’s pay
On all their future dreams,

Who enjoys life’s simple pleasures
That will not break the bank,
And who lives an honest, frugal life
And always gives a prayer of thanks,

Who does not need a limousine,
Just a car to get around,
And has no use for mansions,
Just a small home near to town,

Who passes up on diamond rings,
Choosing just a simple band,
But speaks an everlasting vow
While holding to that special hand,

Yes, few would choose to live like this,
It’s not the popular way,
Most would rather spend all they have
On the pleasures of today.

You bless us with wisdom that will keep us from peril. Please help us all to see the value of not spending more than we make. Debt is a hard taskmaster who whips us for overspending, then loans us more money. We thank You for caring for each and every one of us.

Faith in Love

Matthew 24:29
New Living Translation (NLT)

29 “Immediately after the anguish of those days,
the sun will be darkened,
the moon will give no light,
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.

Watch It Happening

Let light be our guide each day,
Let love be the banner of our hearts,
Wave it high amid the darkness
And watch the magic it imparts,

Watch it shine among the lonely,
Watch it heal the sick and dead,
Watch it put an end to hatred,
When we choose to love instead,

Have some faith in its great power,
See it changing everything,
Mountains move when we command them
At the mention of the king,

Witness too its soon coming,
Ever closer; the end draws near,
His great love is so compelling
There is no need for dread or fear,

Soon the Earth will be in chaos,
Soon the sun and moon will give no light,
But you won’t know the greatest darkness
Cause he will always be in sight.

Your mighty plan put in place before the foundations of the Earth unfolds before our very eyes. Help us to see and choose the power of love that has come down from heaven and You.

Choose Life

Breathe Life

Jeremiah 29:11
New Living Translation (NLT)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Breathe Life

Our hearts are empty as can be
When we first take a breath,
And we must choose what enters in
Between that moment and our death,

We can bathe in hate and fear
Or fill ourselves with love,
The former comes from down below,
The latter from up above,

We can close the door on life
Or we can enter in,
We can sit inside with darkness
Or be filled with joy within,

We can wear a solemn face
And shun friendship’s open hand,
Or meet halfway a lover’s glance
And see what fate’s got planned,

We can live concerned and scared
That we’ll be left alone,
Or take a chance on happiness
On something that’s unknown,

I know that seems quite risky,
You might get hurt again,
But what’s to lose at this point
You haven’t a single friend,

So trust me once and listen,
It’s good advice that I share,
The Lord above will help you
If you just get up from you’re chair.

Help us each day to live this life to the fullest. May we reject all the evil and embrace only love. Thank You, Lord for loving us in spite of our wickedness.

In Search of Love

Where Is Love

1 John 4:19-21
New International Version (NIV)

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Where Is Love

I met a man,
A most curious man,
Who held all the answers
In the palm of his hand,

So I posed him some questions
And asked for his aid,
Here’s what I asked him
And what he conveyed,

Draw me a picture,
Write me a book,
What is love?
And where should I look?

Is it high on a mountain?
Or deep in the sea?
Are there any directions
That you might give to me?

Could I buy it with money?
Or swap it for jewels?
I’m willing to work,
If I have the right tools?

Give me a hint,
Give me a clue,
Show me the right road
To what I pursue,

I’ve heard that love
Is the greatest of treasures,
And I’ve grown quite tired
Of these earthly pleasures,

Please won’t you help me?
Won’t you take hold of my hand?
Lead me and guide me
To this prize most grand,

His answer was clear
As clear could be,
You cannot earn love,
You see… Love is free,

You’re blessed if you find it,
More so, if it’s a gift,
Because it comes down from heaven
Or it does not exist.

So look high above
And send up a prayer,
The one who love finds
Must be willing to share.

Open our hearts and minds that we might forgive one another and live in love. Those who do, live with You. May it be so for always. Thank You!
