New Living Translation (NLT)
1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
There are valleys filled with hate
Where pain and death can both await,
Cloaked in sugar-coated lies,
Such a wickedly devilish disguise,
There are valleys lined with grief
Where worry grows in disbelief,
Where hearts and spirits both succumb
As the restless mind grows ever numb,
There are valleys of illness grim
Where we suffer loss of life and limb,
Where darkness hovers like a cloud
Patiently waiting as death’s black shroud
There are valleys filled with tears
Where our sorrows fall on deafened ears,
Where no solace can be found
As those who watch make not a sound,
But there is a valley filled with hope
Where love will pull us like a rope,
Up from the pit where evil grins
And lets us each begin again,
Yes, there is a valley sweet and fair,
Trouble cannot find us there,
In his embrace we’ll run and hide
And there all our hurts will be laid aside.
