Who’s Calling

This Thing Called Love

1 Corinthians 13:1-3
New Living Translation (NLT)

Love Is the Greatest

13 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

This Thing Called Love

What is this thing we need so much?
A calling or a special plan?
Must we have some purpose
To be more than just a man?

Must we toil for profit?
Our fortunes to increase,
Or should we reach for beauty?
And a way to bring on peace,

Shall we face some challenge
Like a mountain we would climb?
Proving that we are worthy
By living a life that is sublime,

Or should we rather stop today
And ponder what life’s about?
What are the things that will prevail?
That live on without a doubt,

Riches slip right through our hands,
Power lasts but for a season,
Even if we serve the entire world,
Was it for a selfish reason?

But there is a calling we all hear,
Its ringing fills our hearts,
To love all others as ourselves
With the love that God imparts.

Father,

Help us today to lay aside our dreams, our plans, our desires, and seek after You until we find Your perfect love. There is no higher calling. Thank You for caring so about us.
