Let Us Reason Together

The Reckoning

John 8:32
New Living Translation (NLT)

32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

The Reckoning

Come and let us deliberate,
Let sit and “chew the fat”,
Let us pause from all this rhetoric
And ponder where we’re at,

Let us stop our silly bickering,
Take a breath and look around,
I’m sure if we just listened
We could find some common ground,

Maybe we’ll even start to realize
That there’s some who wish us harm,
They want us always arguing
So we’ll “give away the farm”,

We’re all polarized to the max,
Never yielding on anything,
It’s either “our way or the highway”
And that’s a scary thing,

For those who will not compromise,
Who wish to rule by way of might,
They do so at the cost of liberty
And the loss of freedom’s light.

Father,

Come to our aid. Come and clear our minds and hearts. We are in need of a reckoning. A re-evaluation of what is important. Help us to know the truth that we can be truly free. Thank You!

  1. We, as a country and culture, are so entangled in the lies we believe that we cannot discern truth. We must indeed clear our minds and our hearts; but, as in Mt 12.43-45, we must fill our minds and hearts with God Himself, or it will be worse than before:
43“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”

    • I would certainly agree with you that many people are unable to discern right from wrong today. Yet in spite of all the craziness going on all over the world, God is still working. Pruning and preparing hearts around the globe. I know of no better example than that the fastest growing Christian church in the world (per capita) is…Iran. If God can reach inside of such a tyrannical culture and grow His church then I like to hope that there is hope for us all…even here in “Babylon”.

May we all find ourselves “in His embrace”.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I really appreciate it.
