Been There

Speak to Him

Hebrews 4:16
New Living Translation (NLT)

16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Speak to Him

Each day is filled with snares and traps,
The threats are real and great,
Yet his blessings fall on us like raindrops
Amid all of the world’s fears and hate,

We have to toil each new day away,
We must work hard and do our best,
Yet when we hear the night bird’s song
He has us lay down our heads and rest,

Yes, life can be quite difficult,
It can make you breakout in tears,
But instead of wasting all of that effort
Why not send your prayers up to heavenly ears,

There they’ll be heard and answered
By the comfort and healing in his great hands,
When the whole world sits square on our shoulders
He’s been there and completely understands.

Speak to him now, if you’re hurting,
Talk to him just like a friend,
He longs to hear what troubles you so,
On his love you can always depend.

Father,

You hear us before we speak. You answer from the beginning of time. You bless both the good and the evil with immeasurable rains. Thank You so!

To Seek and Save

Speaker of Truth

Luke 19:7-10
New Living Translation (NLT)

7 But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled.

8 Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!”

9 Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”

Speaker of Truth

He held no degrees of learning,
Not a credential or even an award,
He simply spoke the truth in parables
While completely healing the broken horde,

They clung to him as he traveled,
Sat at his feet on the mountainside,
Watched as he fed the thousands
And called forth Lazarus from the other side,

He rode into town on a donkey,
While the powerful plotted his end,
Then he sat ‘round the table to save us,
Only to be betrayed by a very close friend,

He endured a trial of such mockery,
Silent as a lamb he would be slain,
On a tree he endured our just punishment
Until only his righteousness remained,

Truth was the sword that he wielded
And love was the message he gave,
He waits now for the final commandment
To gather all the lost that he sought and saved.

Father,

Great is Your love for us that You would reach down and save us. We thank You and praise You. Amen!

Where Are You Going, My Little One?

The Allotment

Mark 13:32-33
New Living Translation (NLT)

32 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. 33 And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!

The Allotment

The road stretches out before us
In an ever-winding way,
Wherever it might lead us,
We find we cannot stay,

The clock is always ticking,
It will not let us rest,
No matter what we did today
Tomorrow’s a brand new quest,

The path becomes our nemesis
And time its evil twin,
We must reach our destinations
Before the two of them will end,

So remember what we had to learn,
A straight line’s the shortest distance,
And do not waste a single moment
But travel on with great persistence,

Set your course by the stars,
Let heaven be your guide,
The road of life is winding down
And there is no place to hide.

Father,

Be with us daily and whisper to us those things we should do, the path we should follow, and how we should do them. You have numbered our days and we must surely walk this road. May we finish this race a winner. Thank You for helping us.

Who’s Calling

This Thing Called Love

1 Corinthians 13:1-3
New Living Translation (NLT)

Love Is the Greatest

13 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

This Thing Called Love

What is this thing we need so much?
A calling or a special plan?
Must we have some purpose
To be more than just a man?

Must we toil for profit?
Our fortunes to increase,
Or should we reach for beauty?
And a way to bring on peace,

Shall we face some challenge
Like a mountain we would climb?
Proving that we are worthy
By living a life that is sublime,

Or should we rather stop today
And ponder what life’s about?
What are the things that will prevail?
That live on without a doubt,

Riches slip right through our hands,
Power lasts but for a season,
Even if we serve the entire world,
Was it for a selfish reason?

But there is a calling we all hear,
Its ringing fills our hearts,
To love all others as ourselves
With the love that God imparts.

Father,

Help us today to lay aside our dreams, our plans, our desires, and seek after You until we find Your perfect love. There is no higher calling. Thank You for caring so about us.

Love For Sale

The Single Most Important Thing

Matthew 13:44
New Living Translation (NLT)

Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl

44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.

The Single Most Important Thing

The single most important thing
That we could ever find,
Is not a pile of cash sky high
But a love that’s one of a kind,

A love so sweet and innocent,
It would make you want to cry,
It would not leave you when you’re old
Or ever say goodbye,

It would not use you up
Then leave you high and dry,
It would not forsake your covenant
When things had gone awry,

It would not hold you tight at night
Then vanish at the new day’s sun,
It would not praise you to your face
Then behind your back poke fun,

It would not speak with cruelty
Or in anger raise its hand,
It would always lift you up
And beside you forever stand,

Yes, the single most important thing
Is the treasure found in love,
Be thankful if you find in this life
Since it came down from above.

Father,
In You and from You comes all love. Before You loved, there was no love. We thank You and praise You for loving us so much. May we never lose sight of that love. May it be the guiding light we follow in this life.

Shout it!

The Gospel

John 3:16-21
New Living Translation (NLT)

16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

The Gospel

Shout from the hilltops
This message so grand,
God isn’t mad or angry,
He offers you his hand,

He offers it in love,
No price must you pay,
His son was the offering
And faith the only way,

So give up your rebellion,
Surrender to his will,
Repent of your trespass,
Paid for on that hill,

Then he’ll come in the Spirit
And daily walk by your side,
He’ll heal and renew you
And from you never hide,

Good News is the message,
Speak of it with great joy,
His love’s the only weapon
By which chaos is destroyed.

Father,

We thank You for Your love that saves us from ourselves. We confess our sins and repent of them before You. Forgive us and guide us from this day and forevermore. Amen!

Peace, be Still

The Storms

Mark 4:35-41
New Living Translation (NLT)

Jesus Calms the Storm

35 As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” 36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.

38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”

39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

The Storms

Thunder and lightning,
The dynamic duo,
Startles our senses,
Sets the heavens aglow,

Suddenly you’ll see flashes
Like a fireworks display,
Listen and you’ll hear rumbling
In the storm far away,

Then wind and water
Come with the clouds,
Soaking the landscape
While roaring out loud,

Refreshing the flowers,
Caressing the leaves,
Nourishing the gardens,
Giving life to the trees,

The storms though frightening
Provide much that we need,
We’re nourished and strengthened
And through them we succeed,

So when thunder and lightning
Begin to light up your skies,
Look upward toward heaven
And keep your eyes on the prize.

Father,

You are with us each moment of the day. Therefore, let us not worry or lose faith, but walk in the knowledge that You are greater than any storm we might face. Thank You, Lord!

Do You Ever

Do You Ever

Psalm 9:9-10
New Living Translation (NLT)

9 The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed,
a refuge in times of trouble.
10 Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.

Do You Ever

Do you ever feel real slow?
Do you think you’re kind of lame?
Do you ever feel quite useless?
Does it make you feel ashamed?

Do you ever try to run and hide?
Does it make you feel so weak?
Do you ever go ‘round wondering?
Does it make you feel like you’re a creep ?

Do you ever wish that you were dead?
Does it sound like the ultimate solution?
Do you ever find yourself alone?
Does it make you plot your execution?

Do you ever stop and pause?
Does it give you time to think?
Do you ever count your blessings?
Does it pull you back from the brink?

Father,

When we walk through valleys and dark shadows begin to speak to us, please take our hand. Walk with us and keep us from negative thoughts. We have much to be thankful for. May we number every one of them before we act upon our sorrows.

They Will Sing a New Song

Night Bird

Revelation 14:3
New Living Translation (NLT)

3 This great choir sang a wonderful new song in front of the throne of God and before the four living beings and the twenty-four elders. No one could learn this song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.

The Night Bird’s Song

Somewhere within the night bird’s song
There is a longing in her soul,
She cries unto an unknown god
To comfort and console,

But though she cries the whole night long
With all that she can muster,
Nothing ever comes of it
And her soul is left lackluster,

So long I sang that self-same song,
I sang it day and night,
Until one evening I heard a voice
That brought the dawning of the light,

So now I sing a different song,
It is my soul’s delight,
I wish that you might sing it too
And join in this heavenly flight,

Where birds and men can soar up high
As though on angel wings,
And come to know the pleasures
Unknown by earthly kings.

Father,

Thank You for speaking to us from above. Your word makes all the difference.

Moonwalking

Moon Glow

Proverbs 18:22
New Living Translation (NLT)

22 The man who finds a wife finds a treasure,
and he receives favor from the Lord.

In the Moon’s Glow

When you walk with me under a moon-lit sky,
Oh how quickly my heartbeats rise,
And with naught but a glance from your blue green eyes,
Your lips so full shine like a scarlet prize,

The night sky is so awesome
Stretching for miles upon miles,
But all the stars pale in their brilliance
To even one of your smiles,

And though hundreds surround us,
No one is near us it seems,
We walk side by side in silence
As though in an endless dream,

So I’ll pray to the heavens
To all that can hear up above,
Please let us walk on together
Forever in love.

You have blessed me with a wonderful and beautiful wife. Please bless her in all she does and keep her safe from all harm. Thank You so for such a special gift.
