Not My Circus!

The Whip

Proverbs 18:21
New Living Translation (NLT)

21 The tongue can bring death or life;
those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Mark 11:25
New Living Translation (NLT)

25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too

Here I Stand

Here I stand and will remain no more,
The hands of darkness lose their grip,
The Light has come to set me free
From chains and lethal whip,

Though foot to chest can cause great pain,
Though fist to face can cause knock you out,
The tongue is vicious beyond compare
And can leave you with endless doubt,

The searing pain of words that blame,
The never-ending fight,
It seems that they would take my soul
And leave me in this plight,

An abuser’s mind is so hard too reason,
What makes them tick inside?
How can they be so good one moment?
Then make us want to hide,

But not mine to reason anymore,
To this circus I lay no claim,
All the monkeys I have forgiven,
All the tigers I have tamed,

So I thank You, Lord, for this rest,
This peace within my heart,
I cannot make all things right
But with Your help I’ve made a start.

Father,

Give us strength to forgive, for You have forgiven us of so much.

  1. ❤ Wow!
    Romans 8.2, two different ways:
(NLT) And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
(KJV) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
So it doesn’t matter whose sin we’re talking about, our own or someone else who has wronged us. The power of the Word of the Lord, of His Spirit, sets us free, gives us peace.
You’ve captured the pain of sin, and the release God gives us, in your poem.
