Sending in the Clowns

The Circus

1 Timothy 2:1-3
New Living Translation (NLT)

Instructions about Worship

2 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior,

The Circus

Why wouldn’t you enjoy the circus?
What in the world could keep you away?
The lions, the tigers, and the elephants
All make you smile as they roar and they sway,

And way up above you; there’s action
As they dare to swing on the high trapeze,
Or shoot themselves from a giant cannon
And throw knives with great expertise,

But there’s a circus that’s not so entertaining
It comes around after elections each year,
The performers make lots of promises
And charge you for the party and the beer,

And when they finally get down to business
They do things that only benefit the few,
They never pack up their bags and leave town
Though for many it’s long overdue,

So be sure to remember their performance
The last time they rolled into your towns,
They certainly can put on a big show
But the whole thing’s run by the clowns!

Father,

Help us to open our hearts and pray for those who are our leaders that You have placed in authority. You know the beginning and the end. Help us to trust in your guiding. Thank You, Lord!
