Drift Away…

Proverbs 3:24
New American Standard Bible (NASB)

24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

What a glorious thing it is!
Pleasure beyond description!
To slowly drift into the night
Without thoughts or opposition,

To not linger with your grief or pain,
To not wrestle with those past regrets,
But to bathe in mercy’s sweet, clear waters
Where we forgive and we forget,

Sleep comes quickly to the soul
That turns loose and lets it go,
But to the ones that hold on tight
Restlessness is all they’ll ever know,

So be my guest and turn down the sheets
If slumber from trouble is overdue,
Drop the burdens that stab your heart
And sleep will come to you.

We ask Your blessings of rest and peace to be upon all who read this prayer. May Your hand be upon them and may they know a peace that brings them rest from this world. Thank You, Lord!

Let It Go

Mark 11:25
New Living Translation (NLT)

25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too

We all have our baggage
That follows us around,
No matter where we go
It always can be found,

It follows us to work each day
And causes us great grief,
It tags along as we go home
Causing fights without relief,

It gets inside our heads at night
And we toss until we weep,
It ties our brains into a knot
Until we cannot get to sleep,

And if we wake the next day
It all begins again,
It is a relentless dungeon master
That locks us up from deep within,

So turn the key and let it go
And apologize or forgive,
We all reap what we sow,
Sow mercy and start to live.

We forgive those who have wronged us and we confess to all our many sins that we know all too well. Have mercy upon us all. We ask this in our savior’s name, Jesus, the Christ.

If any of you are like me and find it hard to “let go” of all those past pains? Maybe we can let the Lord pick them up for us. This song, “I Let Them Go” by Tommy Walker helps me remember the only place I ever found that helped me. May you all look up and find yourselves…”In His Embrace.”

A Steward’s Heart

Genesis 2:15
New Living Translation (NLT)

15 The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.

Somewhere in the forest
A tree stands tall and proud,
It’s been that way a thousand years
Unbending and unbowed,

Somewhere in the ocean
A creature swims untamed,
Never seen by human eyes
It rules at depths unnamed,

Somewhere in the air above
A condor soars on high,
Up beyond the Earthly bonds
Where meets the space and sky,

Somewhere here upon the Earth
We must one day make a stand,
And protect God’s gracious treasures
That He placed within our hands,

So come along to places grand
Where magic seems to dwell,
And we might yet rescue Eden’s Garden
Where Adam one day fell.

Somewhere we will surely meet You face-to-face. Please help us to be ready to answer for every action we have taken, every deed we have done, and every thought that we have had. Thank You, Lord!

Q and A

16 Questions

1 John 2:15-16
New Living Translation (NLT)

Do Not Love This World

15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

16 Questions

What if the world was different?
What if we stopped and looked around?
Could we put an end to war?
Could peace somehow be found?

Could children all be tucked in bed?
Could their stomachs all be filled?
Might we take care of the elderly?
Might our debt to them be fulfilled?

Maybe we could build relationships?
Maybe we could change our hearts?
Maybe we could learn to listen?
Maybe we could love impart?

Could we make the world a different place?
Could we give up what we desire?
If we turned loose of this old world?
Is that all that it would require?

Guard our hearts from the siren’s call of this world. Keep us daily in Your light. Thank You, Lord!

Seeking Peace

Just Because

Romans 12:18
New International Version (NIV)

18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Just Because

If life were such a simple thing
We’d never have a spat,
But we must walk on eggshells
Or a war we’ll soon begat,

I’ll do this and you’ll react,
Then it all gets out of hand,
How these things get started
I’ll never know or understand,

It seems we’ve always had our fights,
Somehow we never got along,
I’ve felt the sting of your sharp words
Never knowing just what was wrong,

Why did it start so long ago?
Why does it still go on?
I guess we’ll blame it on someone else
And keep trying to get along?

Perhaps it would be better
If we simply would depart,
But for the strangest reasons
We’re bound together at the heart,

If life were such a simple thing
We’d know what was the cause,
But this crazy dance will never end
And the reason seems, “just because”.

Today, give me strength enough to live in peace with everyone I meet. In Jesus’ mighty name.

Such As This

Such a Light

Luke 2:8-11
New Living Translation (NLT)

The Shepherds and Angels

8 That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. 9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, 10 but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!

Such a Savior

Such great love,
Beyond what I can see,
Giving everything I need,
Demanding not a thing from me,

Such great trust,
The father’s will be done,
Even unto death,
Before the setting of the sun,

Such great power,
Love will conquer all,
His word made flesh,
To save us from the fall.

You have given us a gift beyond measure, a love immeasurable, a light within the darkness. Thank You, Lord for You have sent Love unto us and He has conquered the darkness.

The Loss

Such Great Loss

2 Corinthians 4:17-18
New Living Translation (NLT)

17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Such Great Loss

What could I do or say?
What words could give relief?
What gesture could convey?
The depth of this great grief,

A parent should not stand
Over a child being laid to rest,
The sorrow’s too hard to understand,
The pain too much to be expressed,

So walk with them and be a friend,
Listen more than you try to speak,
There’s nothing in words they’ll comprehend
When a hug is all they seek.

You alone know the full grief of the loss of a child. A grief so great that the Earth shook, the sun turned dark, and the angels waited for the command to rescue him…but you gave him up for us. Thank You!

Revelation 21:1-4
New Living Translation (NLT)

The New Jerusalem

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. 2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

His Time

On our daily path it seems
That God is slow to fulfill His scheme,

Why be so long to bring an end
To all to all the evil, all the sin,

Why are children left to cry?
Why must good folks early die?

Why not with Your mighty hand
Bring peace to all these warring lands?

Why not with a single word
Have justice to the world transferred?

Why does it take so very long
For someone who is so very strong?

Then a voice so mild and meek
Of time and space began to speak,

“What might seem to take so long”
“Might be moving right along”,

“To us who are eternal beings”
“Time really has no special meaning”,

“We were placing all things right”
“When first the world came into sight”,

“A billion years might not seem too quick”
“But on Heaven’s clock it’s just a tick”,

“So be patient while we work this out”
“It will come to an end with angel shout”,

“Then we will live in peace sublime”
“And nevermore speak of time”.

We yield to You in all things for You see what we cannot, You do what we cannot, and You are what we are not. Mighty is our Lord and He comes quickly. Thank You, Lord!

The New Garden

The River

Revelation 22:1-5
New Living Translation (NLT)

22 Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. 3 No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. 4 And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. 5 And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.

The River

There is a river sweet and fair,
That gently flows without a care,
No need for sun or even moon,
The Light of God shines bright as noon,

The Tree of Life on each bank stands,
Its leaves for the healing of the lands,
Its fruits each month are sheer delight,
His name on every forehead in plain sight,

Its waters provide for life everlasting,
He knows all we need without ever asking,
The curse has ended to the delight of all,
The air is full of worship from the big and the small,

So leave all of your belongings,
All of your stuff and your things,
And come live in God’s garden,
Where we’re all free once again.

How blessed we are because one day, as sure as sure can be, your people will live on that river! Hallelujah!

That Night

The Stars All Fell

John 8:12
New International Version (NIV)

12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

The Stars All Fell

Long ago before we met,
I shunned your love without regret,
Some would come to tell your tale
But they would make me feel like hell,

As they would tell of eternal flames
And all the devil’s crafty games,
And try to make me come by fear
“Do it now; because death is near”,

“What if you were to die today?”,
“What do you think that god would say?”,
I did not know, I did not care,
I simply ran away from there,

Then I began to drink and drug,
I hid all my fears under that selfish rug,
Until one night in a country field
I prayed a prayer and I was healed,

It was such a simple request,
How could it bring me so much rest?,
I only asked if you were there
That you would show me that you cared,

Then suddenly the stars all fell
In blinding light, with fiery tails,
And I turned over and hid my eyes
Half expecting my demise,

But when I arose, I saw anew,
You did not hate, that was untrue,
I blamed you for what others had said,
They preached fear, but you spoke love instead,

My eyes were opened on that night,
As your true nature was in plain sight,
When I saw you as you really are,
You are love and never far,

So when I stand before your throne
And I must face you all alone,
I will not tremble, I will not shake,
This simple statement I will make,

“Lord, I know that your love is true”,
“And there is nothing that I can do”,
“You proved it to me on that night”,
“When the stars all fell and gave off your light”.

Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus to rescue us. There is nothing we can do, but believe You sent Him and that He was resurrected.
