Whose Hand Is Upon You?

Psalm 91:7-9
New Living Translation (NLT)

7 Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
8 Just open your eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished.
9 If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,

Fear Comes Calling

A hand was upon me,
And amid the fog of early evening
I could not see,

What had taken hold?
What was whispering?
And telling me of things
That soon would be coming,

A dark and creepy voice
As if from an inner dimension,
Somewhere deep inside
Beyond normal comprehension,

It told of future happenings
Of things yet far away,
That required a very high price
One that must be paid today,

I spun around and saw a man
With a fearsome face and frightening,
Framed between peals of thunder
And blinding flashes of lightning,

Then with a sudden shout he cried,
“Pay it now, or pay it later!”
“The moon gives light”
“But the sun is greater!”

“The rivers run wild”
“While the fields are tame”
“Try as hard as you might”
“You must pay to play the game!”

And with that rhyme
He abruptly disappeared,
Leaving me wondering
What was to be so feared?

I believe there is nothing
Except our own dark fears,
Because God up above
Will wipe away our tears.
