Where To Now?

John 15:13
New Living Translation (NLT)

13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

“And so here we are at the end of an era. The Daily Prompt is no more after today. What can I say? Well first, I’ve really enjoyed posting to the Daily Prompt. I’ve been blessed to get to know many of you through your writings and I’ve enjoyed being able to express myself as well. To all of you who took the time to read and visit this blog…”I thank you!”. The Bible tells us that the greatest act of love is to lay down your life for another. That can mean the ultimate act of actually dying for someone else but I believe it can also mean to sacrifice your life in small pieces by helping someone in a million different ways and so I appreciate that all of you have taken the time to visit my tiny blog. Your presence and kind words have touched me and given me great joy. Again, thank you all! “

And as usual, I’ll try to end with a poem.

In retrospect…
It’s been great fun,
Without the Prompt,
What would I’ve done?

No one knew
That I was here,
They wouldn’t come
Even if I gave away beer,

But then I found
The Prompt at last,
It gave me direction
Made writing a blast,

Many came
I know not why,
But I’m glad you did
And that’s no lie,

So on this night
The last we have together,
I’ll say this prayer
It will be my pleasure,

“Father, won’t You hear this prayer?”
“Bless all who read this with Your tender care”,
“Keep them safe from what they fear”
“Let them know that You’re always there!”

Broken But Not Defeated

Revelation 21:5
New Living Translation (NLT)

5 And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”

Today I am new
My life holds nothing but hope
I have much to do

I could have done it
If I did not have a past
But I was broken

New Again

I have arisen
My past now has no control
I have become new

We await Your plan. It is true and trustworthy. Bless us all with Your mercy and grace.

Changing Day by Day

2 Corinthians 4:16-18
New Living Translation (NLT)

16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

My Life Juxtaposed

Take a look
Compare if you will
It was my life then
It’s my life still

But things have changed
And they’ll change even more
Each day I’m becoming
What I was not before

Each day I let go
And become all that I can
By hearing Your voice
And holding Your hand

So if you knew me before
You might not know me at all
I’m growing much bigger
By becoming quite small

It’s not a bad thing
As you might rightly suppose
Once you’ve compared my lives
The old and the new juxtaposed

You change us daily. You change us with certainty. One day we will be completely changed. Until then, please have mercy upon us all.

Lest We Forget

american flag may 5.jpg

John 15:13
New Living Translation (NLT)

13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

If Not For Them

On a mountain far from here,
In a valley filled with fear,
In a jungle dark and wet,
Let us who profit not forget,

Those who heard sweet freedom’s call
And who answered it with their all,
Who bleed and died in some foreign land
That we might under this flag stand,

And enjoy a life we pick and choose,
Where we can all have our different views,
Where we have rights that are guaranteed
Upheld in courts by God’s grand decree,

We are not perfect in all we’ve done
Freedom’s prize is not yet completely won,
But let us take this day to celebrate
And in grandest ceremony elevate,

Those whose families look at empty chairs
And must surely wonder why it was theirs,
Who fought against the evil tides,
Who stood with courage though afraid inside.

On this day we honor those who have given their lives for others. Crown them with honor, Lord, and please comfort their families and friends.

Who Are Your Friends?

James 4:4
New Living Translation (NLT)

4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

Could I be famous as Amos?
And bake cookies that bring on a smile,
Or maybe be another Elvis
And keep all the young girls beguiled,

Or perhaps I might become a tycoon
And have more money than I can spend,
Then live out there somewhere on the Riviera
And have no one but the richest of friends,

It sounds like a life filled with pleasures
A thrill every minute, every day,
But I’m afraid there’s a fly in the ointment
And everything would turn bitter and gray,

I suppose being famous is alright
If you’re well liked in the proper way,
But here on the Earth it’s been proven
That fame tends to come, then slip away,

It’s not a friend you can count on
It’s here; then suddenly gone,
So you better choose your friends wisely
Or you’ll find that you were always alone.

Bless us all with wisdom that we might make right choices. In doing so we make for ourselves a life that is rich in friendship. Thank You, Lord!

Opposites Impact

Revelation 21:1
New Living Translation (NLT)

The New Jerusalem

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared…

Double Trouble

Every bit of matter
Has an “anti” all its own,
It appears they might be twins
But they must live all alone,

If they ever meet each other
As doppelgangers might,
Their attraction for each other
Will cause chaos to ignite,

Now this might sound peculiar
But Dirac postulated it was true,
And now we know if the two should meet
Then the both of them are through.

May we not be found in opposition to You. May we be clothed in the righteousness of Jesus.
Thank You, Lord!

The Final “Peace” in the Puzzle

The God Shaped Hole

This quote is from the book, Pensées, by Blaise Pascal. This is most likely  where the concept of a God-shaped hole in our hearts comes from:

“What else does this craving, and this helplessness, proclaim but that there was once in man a true happiness, of which all that now remains is the empty print and trace? This he tries in vain to fill with everything around him, seeking in things that are not there the help he cannot find in those that are, though none can help, since this infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words by God himself.”

The God-Shaped Hole

I’ve heard it said a million times
And it’s true I must admit,
“There is a hole within our hearts
Where only God can fit”

And while we seek,
And while we search,
In the lowest bar
Or highest church,

In smallest grain
Or cosmos grand,
He is never far
But always close at hand,

And when we laugh
Or when we cry,
He’ll laugh along,
He’ll dry our eyes,

So close your eyes
And close your mouth,
Open your heart
And release all doubt,

He is Love,
He’ll not condemn,
But fill that hole
Made just for Him.

May we all stop searching in all the wrong places and simply “let You in”.

Never too Late to be Archaic

2 Corinthians 4:16-17
New Living Translation (NLT)

16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

Finally, a word I can relate to
In fact; it suits me to a tee
I’m not really all that ancient
But again I’m not twenty-three

The way I look won’t win a prize
My hippie hair is such a mess
And people often stop and stare
At the old fashioned way I dress

I’m quite a sight as you can tell
To deny it wouldn’t be the truth
Some might call me archaic
While others “long in the tooth”

But no matter what you call me
I’m still having lots of fun
I’m retired on a pension
And all my working days are done

So how archaic can I be
When I’m living life so free
While you’re still driving in to work
I bet you wish that you were me

In the waning years may we be strengthened. May we be filled with Your Spirit. May we light the world around us with Your glory. Thank You, Lord!

Guilty but Not Charged

Romans 8:1-2
New Living Translation (NLT)

Life in the Spirit

8 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Sweat slowly trickles down my cheek
As I feel my heart wildly pound,
My accuser points an angry finger
And displays the evidence that’s been found,

“What have you to say for yourself?”
“What is your plea today?”
“Are you not guilty as you’re charged?”
“Come now, what have you to say?”

I squirm a moment in my seat
And then I twist and turn,
What could I possibly say to him?
That would let this trial adjourn,

My mind keeps whirling oh so fast
I’m literally shaking in my boots,
I wonder if I’ll be set free
Or if I’ll get the noose,

Then my only defense comes to me
And I fall before the judge and shout,
“Have mercy on me; if you will”
“For I’m guilty without a doubt!”

The judge sits silent and ponders long
And weighs the justice that my crime demands,
Then finally declares me innocent
By the nail scars in his hands.

Thank You for sending Jesus to redeem us for we were guilty as charged and without hope, and yet He has pulled us from the grip of sin and death. Thank You, Lord Jesus!

Assume Nothing

James 4:13-15
New Living Translation (NLT)

Warning about Self-Confidence

13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.”

Take my word for it
It is going to happen
Agh! The deal fell through!

©2018 by William Pierce

Let our words be “yes” or “no”. Let us assume nothing; for our lives are tentative at best. We place our trust in You and call out for Your help. We know You will answer because You love us. Thank You!
