When I Don’t Even Know What I Need

Ephesians 5:17
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

17 Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.

Fast and Vague

I pulled up to the fast food window
And waited my turn to speak
But what I heard was so very vague
It sounded much like Greek

It was kind of muffled
Like someone locked inside a can
Or maybe like their mouth
Was full of rocks and sand

It sure was hard to understand
So I simply shouted out what I desired
“I’d like a Biggie burger with Freakie fries”
“And I got a coupon if it’s not expired”

Well, you’d think I’d asked them for the moon
From the commotion that I heard
Two of them were talking now
But I still could not understand a single word

So I decided to tell them once again
As if that would help to clear the air

I leaned out of the window
So I might hear a little better
When a girl came out the backdoor
With a manager’s badge pinned on her sweater

“Sir,” she said with a great big smile
“Please pull on through to the other side”
“Your order’s waiting there for you”
And with that she turned and went back inside

Well, I pulled around to the pickup window
And the whole crew was waiting with a grin
They giggled as they handed me the sack
And said, “Please won’t you come again!”

And they wouldn’t take a single dime
Though I offered once or twice
They kept saying something about
The fun they had “Would more than suffice”

So I took my burger back home with me
And popped a Freakie Fry
When all of a sudden I realized
It was a drink I did not buy

So I’m on the way back to try again
I hope a “Big Gulp” they can provide
But I won’t be speaking to that crazy machine
Cause from now on I’ll go inside

Help us communicate Your word and Your will. May we be blessed with the patience necessary to be a blessing to everyone we encounter. Thank You, Lord for supplying our every need, even when we can’t tell you what they are.
