Toxic Thinking

2 Corinthians 10:5
New International Version (NIV)

5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

That Snake Within Us

There is a little snake
That roams the whole world wide
And unless you’re very careful
There’ll be nowhere you can hide

You see it bites us without warning
When we least expect it to
Like when we had a dinner planned
But your spouse is overdue

And when they finally make it
Even if they apologize right off
We feel that we’ve been slighted
And we bicker and we scoff

Or maybe we’re in traffic
And our foot is hard upon the gas
Then someone pulls over on us
And our words become quite crass

There are hundreds of situations
I’m sure you know them too
Where we let our emotions run away
And the poison comes on through

So resist this toxic, reptilian bite
That’s hiding somewhere deep inside
Because once you let the venom flow
It’s too late to then decide
