Bowl of Betrayal

Matthew 26:20-23
New International Version (NIV)

20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.” 22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?” 23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.

Lost Trust

We place our precious trust
In those we’ve let into our hearts
We hope it lasts and lasts
This relation it imparts

A sacred, solemn vow
Whether silent or proclaimed
That binds two souls together
In a union unashamed

A covenant, if you will
A walking through the fire
An image of an unseen bond
That only few acquire

How great then is the poison string
How crushing to the soul
When that precious trust’s betrayed
There is only one thing that consoles

Have mercy upon us when we betray Your trust. When we disobey Your commands. When we would make much of ourselves.
