Be Aware of Who Cares

Matthew 7:15
New Living Translation (NLT)

The Tree and Its Fruit

15 “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.

Conveyor of What

Who is your conveyor
That speaks most to your heart
Is it someone close to you
And what do they impart

Do they build you up with love
Or do they tear you down
When they’re finished teaching
Do you laugh or do you frown

Do they call you names and such
Or are they your true friend
Do you know if you can trust them
Right to the very end

If you find yourself in doubt
And feel betrayed today
Perhaps you’ll listen for the Shepherd’s voice
And hear what He has to say

“Come to me all of you”
“Who are tired and feeling pressed”
“I will give you comfort”
“I will give you rest”

He loves you more than words can say
He’ll give you joy, not strife
He proved it on a distant hill
When He gave up His life

So if you heed a word today
Make sure it’s good and true
There are wolves out there among the sheep
Just waiting there for you

Bless us today to hear Your voice and know that You are our very best friend. May we always stay within earshot and know that we are safe.

Just a Short Walk Away

Cabin with Watermark2

Dreaming of a Hideaway

It’s an unremarkable place
Just a short walk away
Down by the creek
Where the deer often play

There’s no tv or computer
And the phones are all gone
When you are there
You are really alone

Just the crickets and the frogs
Are all that you’ll hear
It’s just a place in the woods
To get your head clear

So quietly close the door
And leave the world behind
Then listen with your heart
So God’s peace you will find

Pocketful of Cavities

Proverbs 21:5
New Living Translation (NLT)

5 Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity,
but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.

The Cavity

I had a little cavity
Which made me want to cry
Anything I bit down on
Would make me jump sky-high

So I went to see the dentist
And he said he’d fix me up
Next thing I was in the chair
And spitting in a cup

He packed my mouth with cotton
So full I could not speak
Then he had the nerve to ask
“What’s been going on this week?”

Well, I squirmed around with my tongue
And made a hole and tried to vocalize
But he jabbed me with some Novocain
And my mouth was paralyzed

Then he started drilling and a ‘grinding
It seemed like for days and days
And when he let me up from there
I was sort of in a haze

His assistant handed me a cup
And said that I should rinse
But when I did it all came out
Like through a picket fence

Well, she wiped me off as best she could
But he wasn’t through quite yet
Then he started filling in the hole
And he began to sweat

He’d push and pull, and poke around
And stuck a light inside
Then finally he said, “Looks like we’re done”
“Tank Gawd!” I replied.

And I thought it all was over
Until the bill was handed to me
But the hole they drilled in my pocketbook
Was bigger than the cavity

So be diligent in all you do
Brush your teeth and say a prayer
If you don’t take care of the simple things
You’ll need to be a millionaire

Help us each day to take care of the important things in life…our relationship with you, our families, our health, and to savor every moment of every day. Life is short and extraordinary, we should cherish each second. Thank You for our amazing lives!

Trying to Stifle the Wind

John 14:6
New Living Translation (NLT

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

It Cannot Be Stifled

Once the trigger has been pulled
The bullet must take flight
Just as when the sun has set
The stars will light up the night

So why would we imagine
In our deepest darkness mind
That the truth when once revealed
Could ever be confined

Its glory is ever-shining
Its worth cannot be denied
Like an avalanche of justice
With our lies it will collide

Its wisdom sets the world aflame
And fills our hearts with hope
It pulls us from this darkened place
Where we have groaned and groped

The demons stood and watched that day
His death was their evil notion
But then He declared, “It is finished.”
And the truth of grace was set in motion

So do not resist His mercy
Let it sweep over you like the ocean’s tide
It will wash and make you clean again
Why would you want to hide

Thank You for sending Jesus. Thank You for Your amazing grace that sets us all free. If we will but let it.

Where I Came From

Sometimes it’s good to visit where we’ve come from, if for no other reason than to see how far we’ve come. I wrote this poem many, many years ago when I could only see the darkness.

Thank You, Father for shining the Light my way.

By William Pierce

Sing songs to knights and kings,
And ginger-haired ladies walking castle walls.
No, I’ll never be anything;
Anything at all.
Just a bloated, battered body,
Floating on an endless sea.

And even if I were to wash to shore,
I’m sure all would pass me by,
Save the gulls, who’d pick my bones,
No one would wonder why I’d died.

Learning How Little I Knew

Proverbs 3:5-8
New Living Translation (NLT)

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
8 Then you will have healing for your body
and strength for your bones.

In The Twinkling of an Inkling

When I was thirteen
I was sure I knew it all
You could ask me anything
From the very biggest to the extra small

Then I went to college
And my knowledge began to shrink
While I wasn’t certain why that was
It surely made me think

And when I had to go to work
My boss had just one thing to say
Keep your opinions to yourself
Or hit the old highway

Well time went on and I found a bride
And we produced a family
There’s nothing like a wife and kids
To make your brain power cease to be

Then I hit my fifties
And my body began to alter
My hair grew thin and waistline fat
While my mind was fast to falter

Now here I sit retired and old
My life passed in a twinkling
I think I have what’s called Alzheimer’s
But most days I haven’t got an inkling

But do not cry or shed a tear
Cause there’s one thing I know is true
“The more I’ve learned I didn’t know,
The more I’ve come to know of You.”

When I was young and foolish I believed I had all the answers to all the questions. Now, I have all the questions and only one answer. You are that answer. Thank You for teaching me how little I knew until now.

Seeing Is Believing

Romans 1:19-20
New Living Translation (NLT)

19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Just Too Inscrutable

Stop for a moment
Pause and listen well
There’s much to understand
There’s much that nature tells

The stars that fill the night sky
Reveal the splendor of it all
But speak more about His vastness
Than about how we are small

The numbers of the creatures
From snails on up to man
Show not how great we are
But the power of His hand

And plants that are so varied
That supply both food and air
Are not just for our pleasure
But proof of how He cares

We cannot ever fully know Him
Or deduce His marvelous way
But the signs He’s left around us
Shows His nature clear as day

So do what you will as you look
You can open or close the door
He’s too inscrutable to figure out
But too obvious to ignore

You have created all, provide for all, and show Yourself to all. You are high above us in all Your ways and yet You love us and reveal that love, even unto the death of Your son. Thank You, Lord!

How We See Things

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
New Living Translation (NLT)

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Viewing Things in the Light

We often view in silhouette
Those whom we only think that we know
Backlit by our own dark perceptions
We are quick to let prejudice grow

We let emotions drive our decisions
We let jealousy call all the shots
We are quick to jump to conclusions
We don’t take time to connect all of the dots

So in the end we are wrong in our assessments
We are name-calling before we shake hands
Could we all just pause for a moment
To understand where they actually stand

We might even find that we learn something
Or discover an ally or friend
We might come to a better conclusion
We might even find that we could win

So we lift up our voices in prayer
And call out for help from above
Help us not view others with doubt or suspicion
Help us view only in the light of Your love

©2018 by William Pierce

Help us to see the world through eyes of love. Let us not become jaded or full of mistrust
May we live our lives trusting in You and never doubting the doctrine of love.

Thank You!

He Is In Control

Isaiah 46:4-6
New Living Translation (NLT)

4 I will be your God throughout your lifetime—
until your hair is white with age.
I made you, and I will care for you.
I will carry you along and save you.
5 “To whom will you compare me?
Who is my equal?
6 Some people pour out their silver and gold
and hire a craftsman to make a god from it.
Then they bow down and worship it!

The Conductor

The sounds drifted upward
From the stage where they would play
Each was tuning up their instrument
Before the show got underway

The audience was drifting in
While there was time to find their place
The lights would soon be going dim
As darkness filled the space

An announcer came and welcomed all
And gave thanks to those who were there
Then the curtain slowly began to rise
As applause rose and filled the air

And then from somewhere off stage left
Came a figure dressed in black
They carried a baton in hand
And had their hair combed back

Their demeanor was so dominant
They walked with complete authority
It was plan to see who had control
And no one would disagree

And as they raised their arm up high
Every member looked their way
And with the downbeat of their arm
The music began to play

The melody was beautiful
And the leader held the pace
And directed every section in
With such elegance and grace

And when the time came to end
With a flourish they stopped it all
Then they were busy taking bows
While the audience begged for a curtain call

Freedom is a precious thing but to live together we must have someone setting the pace and leading us throughout our lives. Without leadership there is chaos. Without You there is no life. Please lead us all and keep us safe. Thank You!

Party Hearty, Lest You’re Tardy

Matthew 25:1-13
New Living Translation (NLT)

Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids

25 “Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, 4 but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. 5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 “At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’ 7 “All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. 8 Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’ 9 “But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’ 12 “But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’ 13 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.

Will You Have a Ride ?

I was running late that day
As the door slammed on the train
And I stood there as the 6:35
Sped away in the pouring rain

I could not be late to work that day
It simply would not do
We had a meeting with our top client
About the contract to renew

And so I grabbed a taxi on the corner
And to the driver I explained
“I’ve got a meeting at eight o’clock!”
“And here’s a hundred if we make it”, I proclaimed

Well, he glanced at me and hit the gas
And we shot off like a rocket ship
And we were making real good time
Until we hit that great big dip

His car began to bounce around
And then he up and lost control
If it wasn’t for that pile of dirt we hit
We probably would have rolled

We both were fine or so it seemed
But his cab was beyond repair
So I paid him what I owed him
And ran to catch the bus up on the square

And as luck would have it on that day
As I was getting to the stop
The bus was waiting there before me
But its transmission had just gone “plop!”

Well, I was really feeling bad
“I mean, what else could go wrong!”
So I stuck my thumb out to hitchhike
When a policeman came along

“Hey Buddy! What are you doing?”
Was the question I ignored
“Go away, let me alone!”
As I belted out a roar

Then he tapped me on the shoulder
And spoke so firm and strong
“If you don’t want to go to jail?”
“You had better move along”

As I spun around I realized
Just who I was speaking to
And I apologized very quickly
As I told him all I had been through

He said, “My name Jerry, where are you headed?”
And I told him straight away
“Then get in the squad car right now”
Was all he had to say

Next thing I heard was the siren’s blast
As his lights began to flash
Soon we pulled up to my building
And I offered him some cash

“No sir”, he said, “It’s my pleasure”
“I just hope you won’t be tardy”
I glanced down at my wristwatch
And it was only seven-forty

“No sir, you got me here
With time enough to spare”
“Isn’t there something I could do for you
You know, I am a millionaire”

“I’m glad for you, if that’s all you need
But you see there’s a king that rides with me
He’s saved my life a million times or more
He’s all I’ll ever need”

“He told me you needed help today
As you hitchhiked in the rain
For He knew your millions wouldn’t get you here
From the moment you missed your train”

Then he drove away as I stood there
And then I went in and closed the deal
I’ve made millions more since that day
But I don’t feel like I used to feel

You see, there is no one who rides with me
And I know money can’t buy everything
I’m afraid I might be tardy to the biggest deal
And Jerry might not bring around the king

There is only one ride to Your kingdom and His name is Jesus. Please help us to not be tardy.

Thank You so!
