Hope Shines

Finally

Isaiah 43:2
New Living Translation (NLT)

2 When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.

Final Hope

Finally 2017 has come to an end
Whether you liked it or not, it won’t be back again

Wildfires in California had firefighters in a daze
They set records of the worst kind for the acres ablaze

There also was destruction from hurricanes galore
Harvey, Irma and Maria are names that many deplore

And there in Las Vegas a madman fired shot after shot
So many lives taken in his maniacal plot

It’s enough to make you think there’s really no hope
That we’re all heading down a dark, slippery slope

But nothing is different than it’s ever been
There’s good and there’s evil warring within

So know that hope still shines like a blazing, bright light
For all who have Jesus on this New Year’s Eve night

Father,

From the dawn of time we have struggled against the darkness. Evil has always been with us and will continue to be here until You put an end to it. Come quickly Lord, come quickly!

Winning in the End

Almost

Colossians 3:23-24
New Living Translation (NLT)

23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 24 Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

Almost Number One

Almost a winner
Is no winner at all
Even if you get a medal
You cannot stand tall

And nowadays they give medals
If you just show up and run
How can you be proud
When there’s nothing you’ve done

You can show off your ribbons
With their colors galore
But they really mean nothing
They’re just a dime at the store

For your awards to be of value
You must work hard everyday
And then when they praise you
You won’t have to look away

And what of the ones, you ask
Who never can win
Won’t their spirits be broken
Can they take it on the chin

Of this I am certain
And it’s always been true
Work everything as unto the Lord
And He will take care of you

Father,

In this race we run help us to do our best. Help us to work as for You. Then we can rest in the knowledge that You empower us to complete the task as You would have us do it. From You and You alone we seek applause and approval.

How to Live an Extravagant Life

Extravagant

1 Corinthians 2:9
New Living Translation (NLT)

9 That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
and no mind has imagined
what God has prepared
for those who love him.”

Extravagant Living

This life we live though challenging
Is filled with hope beyond all our dreams
Even though the darkness surrounds us
A heavenly light inside still beams

Many are poor and near starving
Many must work most all the day
Many have no home to go to
Many have no bed on which to lay

Some have more than the many
They work hard to get what they need
But somehow it’s still hard to prosper
The rules make it hard to succeed

Then there are the few who are wealthy
Some of them think they’re in total control
They’ve gained the riches of this world
But they’ll most likely lose their soul

So no matter your struggle or life station
Have faith and never lose heart
The Lord has promised His people heaven
And all the wonderful things it imparts

Father,

You would grant to us a life abundant if we would only give You control. Help us to get go of this life and this world and gain it all.

Thank You for all the amazing love.

Comfy and Cozy

Cozy

Proverbs 18:22
New Living Translation (NLT)

22 The man who finds a wife finds a treasure,
and he receives favor from the Lord.

Cozy Together

We walk the sandy seashore
As the sun breaks through the night
The salt breeze lifts our faces
To meet the sun’s first rays of light

I feel her hand in my hand
The touch I’ve grown to know and love
The perfect match from heaven
Her caress as cozy as a glove

We share this life together
Through times both good and bad
A vow we made forever
No other makes me glad

And when the sun begins to set
And this life’s light grows dim
I pray we walk the shore of heaven
The two of us and Him

Father,

I thank You so for my lovely wife. She is truly a match made in heaven. Please bless us with long and healthy lives together.

“Fess Up”

Confess

1 John 1:8-9
New Living Translation (NLT)

8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Confessing Your Love

Must I confess my every flaw
And broadcast it to the world
Must everyone know just what I’ve done
Like some tattered flag unfurled

Must I scream out loud and pound my chest
And tear my robe while pleading on my knees
If I walked barefoot and backwards through a fire
Would that be something that would appease

I find that when the world feels wronged
There’s really no way to make amends
The gavel slams down in judgment quickly
And the punishment descends

That’s why I love You so, I guess
Why Your mercy moves me so
The world would cast me off with ease
Yet You have never let me go

Even when I’ve turned and run away
Even when I cursed Your very name
With open arms You’ve always waited
And loved me just the same

Father,

Thank You for not turning Your back on us. Thank You for Your mercy and Your kindness. Please continue to come and meet us in our darkness.

Cherish the Gift

Fellow Bloggers,

I’ll be away for a few days. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and are looking forward to the new year, but if not, I thought I would share this poem I wrote several years ago. Sometimes despite all the tinsel and glitz this can be a hard time for some people. I wrote this during such a period.

Merry Christmas to all… cherish the gift!

Cherish the Gift

Romans 5:8
New Living Translation (NLT)

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Christmas Lost?

Can Christmas be lost?
Can troubles arise
And crush the spirit,
Or so damage the heart
That salvation will be stillborn?
Hardly.
It is much more likely
That Christmas would be forgotten
Amid the bright lights
And the fancy presents.
It is extravagance that blinds,
Not hardship.
So let us give thanks!
Let us be glad
That trouble visits us this season.
Let us count our blessings,
For that is the true essence of Christmas,
For while we were yet in trouble
Our Christmas was delivered in a manger
And given to us upon that Hill.
We can never lose it,
We can only forget to unwrap it and rejoice.

Father,

Thank You for Christmas. Thank You for Your gift of incomparable love. No matter what troubles we face, no matter what darkness looms before us, no matters how hopeless things might seem, help us to cherish Christmas and never fail to open it every day.

Child So Mild

Mild

Luke 2:16-20
New Living Translation (NLT)

16 They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. 17 After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. 18 All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, 19 but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. 20 The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.

Mild Child

Oh little child from Bethlehem
With miracles in Your garment’s hem
With such mild courage You took their blows
Then on that third day fiercely rose
And all the while forgiving them

Oh mighty One now seated high
Your name we’re called to glorify
So we proclaim You without shame
And though they treat us just the same
Make forgiveness our glad reply

Oh Shepherd who now lives within
Who is our Lord and yet our friend
We know You answer when we’ve prayed
You still hold us tight when we’re afraid
You are with us until the end

Oh God the Father who He helps us see
You sent Your Son to set us free
He was the Gift with mercy filled
Who healed us by His blood that spilled
And taught what Christmas should be

Father,

Thank You for the special gift of Christmas. May we never lose sight of Who that is or refuse to accept Him.

Torn Asunder

Torn

Genesis 3:20-24
New Living Translation (NLT)

Paradise Lost: God’s Judgment

20 Then the man—Adam—named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live.
21 And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.
22 Then the Lord God said, “Look, the human beings[b] have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!”
23 So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made.
24 After sending them out, the Lord God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

A Rose Once Torn

Plucked from the bush,
Petals torn asunder,
Separated without hope,
Deceit had won its plunder,

Accursed and cast out,
Barred from love’s perfect union,
Only holy flesh and blood,
Could create a new communion,

But where might be found
This life’s elixir,
That heals the heart,
The soul’s true fixer,

A graft was needed,
Its beauty to revive,
What had been lost, now was found,
And is once again alive.

Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus to redeem and restore all who will believe!

Simply Miraculous

Miraculous

Matthew 22:36-40
New Living Translation (NLT)

36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”
37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Miraculous

Be miraculous
Love your neighbor as yourself
And God with your all

Father,

You tell us that if we do not love the we are in danger of not knowing You at all. So please make us all into “loving machines”. Bless us with legs that run to those in pain. Bless us with arms that long to embrace those who are unlovable. Bless us with hearts that overflow with the love that You have placed in us. We thank You for these great gifts.
