Lost in the Crowd

Romans 12:2
New International Version (NIV)

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Popular With Whom

Oh, to be popular!
To be sought out and admired
Fans all shouting out your name
Knowing you are the one desired

Plane rides to exotic places
Movie stars walking the bright runway
Reporters holding microphones
Wait to hear what you will say

But at home in your bedroom
Before you drift off in troubled sleep
Take time to pray to unknown gods
And ponder questions deep

What does it really matter
If the crowds all cheer and shout
What lies beyond the final breath
What’s your life really all about

On the other side of eternity
Will your life be judged good or bad
And if His approval is all you need
Will you have anything you can add

So take stock of what it’s really worth
To be popular with the crowd
It can bring you pleasure for a moment
But with fulfillment it’s not endowed

The world calls to us from the darkness with visions of beauty and pleasure. It calls us special, it calls us unique, it calls us to be filled with pride, yet it is fickle and turns on us when someone more popular comes along. We are soon forgotten in its madness. You, Lord, never forget us, never stop loving us, never cease to care. We thank you and praise You for Your steadfast love and mercy.
