1 Corinthians 13:1-3
New International Version (NIV)
13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Got to looking at this powerful word tonight –“Without love I am irrelevant”. This is a strong statement from the Apostle Paul. He doesn’t even mention the things that we normally associate with relevance in the world, like money or fame or power. No, he cuts right to the heart of what matters to God…love. Do we possess love? Paul speaks of having prophecy, knowledge and even faith, and not just prophecy or knowledge, but ALL prophecy and ALL knowledge, and faith that moves mountains. Amazing spiritual gifts, but none of those matter though, if we don’t have love. He’s not talking about having someone who loves us, either. Rather he is talking about possessing love within us and giving it away to others. So it’s not that we are loved, but that we love others. Without possessing love and sharing it we are irrelevant in the kingdom of God. A sobering thought for all of us who spent today worried about whether Planet X would collide into the Earth or if we might go to war with North Korea. Not that world events aren’t important, but the “power plant” or “engine” of God’s kingdom is love and that love shared. It’s an old example, but a good one…”The Sea of Galilee is fresh and clean and full of life because water flows through it, but the Dead Sea is salty and stagnant because the water in it just sits. It’s the same water flowing through both, but one is full of life and the other is not.”
Love Takes Flight
Held tight it will die
Loosed it will take wing and fly
Yet always returns

Today we are faced with a decision that will change our lives. Do we choose to be filled with Your love that gives life and to pass that love on to others, or do we choose to hold on to love and watch it waste away inside? May we all choose to be relevant.
Thank You most loving Lord!
