New International Version (NIV)
4 Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
A Willy-Nilly Word
Today would be a great day
To ponder and be profound
So I sharpened up my pencil
And guess what prompt I found
Was it great and thoughtful?
Did it mesmerize and inspire?
Could it launch a mighty ship?
Or even start a literary empire?
Could it change the winds of impending war?
Or break the hearts of men?
Would it cause the rich to share their wealth?
Or stop the tides of sin?
With heart aglow and mind on fire
I opened up today and read
And fell back aghast upon my chair
When “willy-nilly” was what it said
“Willy-nilly!” I must be wrong!
What kind of prompt is that?
I’d sooner read some Seuss-like tale
About a cat within a hat
Oh! Muse of inspiration come
And grant me your embrace
I cannot think, my mind is warped
By this disordered place
Alas! It’s true, I’ve come undone
My words have all turned sour
And now I find that I am lost
Within a willy-nilly power.
So come again tomorrow friends
Perhaps my words will improve
If only I don’t find the prompt
To be “dainty” or “behoove”.

Today I write about how “willy-nilly” the world can seem, but not You, Lord. In all You do there is purpose. You created us and You carry us throughout all of life from before we were born until we return unto dust. You are our hope and our healer. Please move today in each of our lives that we might be complete and that we might share Your love with the world.
May it be so in Jesus’ name. Amen
