Not Whipped Yet

1 John 2:15-17
New International Version (NIV)

On Not Loving the World

15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Lust – verb (used without object)

to have a yearning or desire; have a strong or excessive craving (often followed by for or after).

World of Lust

It’s the “after” or the “for” that will always present
Our deepest and sincerest, most honest intent
Of just what in this world we will choose
And when we have chosen, how we will use
The gifts from above that are sent

Cain was the first son born to Eve
A blessing from the Lord for her to conceive
His offering rejected, on Abel he turned
And in the field with murder, his heart burned
Leading to the mark he received

When David was a young shepherd on the land
At Goliath a rock he flung from his hand
A mighty king he soon would become
But to his lust for Bathsheba he succumbed
And Nathan shouts, “You are the man!”

Lust has a whip and is a slave driver
Few of its victims are ever a survivor
So whether a murderer or a mighty king
Lust is only after one thing
To make us wear the world like a visor

The world cries out to us and drives us far from You. Do not leave us in its grip but rescue us from its deadly, sweet lips. We long to be free from this dark world of sin and be with You again. Thank You for every blessing. Amen!
