New Living Translation (NLT)
9 What do people really get for all their hard work? 10 I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. 11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. 12 So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. 13 And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.
14 And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose is that people should fear him. 15 What is happening now has happened before, and what will happen in the future has happened before, because God makes the same things happen over and over again.
The Swinging of the Gate
Each day at the opening of the gate
Each new day at the closing of the gate
I take a nightly break
But in between I’m running to and fro
So many places I must go
So many things I feel I must do
Will I ever get through
Off to school
Off to work
Pushing harder, never shirk
With the bell, I’m off and running
Use my strength, use my cunning
Till at day’s end the gate starts closing
And I’m again gently dosing
Until tomorrow comes again
And that gate swings open and I began
To anticipate this day’s end
Until that gate swings once again
There is a gate though that many dread
When at last they are dead
The final swinging of that gate
Will it find them in some blissful state
Or in some hellish oven wait
Only time will reveal they’re fate
In Christ alone I anticipate

It seems that we are always running, always pushing, but there is a rest. There is a place where we can stop and find peace. That place is in You. Be with us today. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and make us anew. We will swing through the gates of life anticipating meeting You around every corner. That is the hope in life. That is all we really need.
Thank You, Lord for everything great and small. Amen.
