Mighty Bumbler, One and All

Pyramids

Exodus 4:10-15
New International Version (NIV)

10 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”
11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” 13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”
14 Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. 15 You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.

Numbers 12:6-8
New International Version (NIV)

6 he said, “Listen to my words:
“When there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions,
I speak to them in dreams.
7 But this is not true of my servant Moses;
he is faithful in all my house.
8 With him I speak face to face,
clearly and not in riddles;
he sees the form of the Lord.
Why then were you not afraid
to speak against my servant Moses?”

Moses called himself a bumbler, slow of speech and tongue. When the Lord would send him to Egypt to rescue the Hebrews, he asked the Lord to send someone else. The Lord God Almighty; however, would say of Moses that there was no prophet like him. To no other prophet of Israel would He speak face to face. God clearly thought highly of Moses, like no other prophet.

Whose opinion of you are you worried about? When the world says you are a bumbler or you’re ugly or stupid or whatever they say about you…why do you care, if God is for you? Even if you say bad things about yourself – should you care even then?

What does God say about you…about us all?

Father,

We worry too much about this world and its opinion of us. We worry too much about our own opinion of ourselves. Like Moses, we doubt ourselves and our value, but it is Your opinion of us that matters. If You love us and empower us, then we can do anything. We are indeed of great value, if the Creator of All Things loves us. Your word never lies and Your word tells us that we are greatly loved by You. We will never have any greater praise. Help us all to never again see ourselves as bumblers or unworthy or unloved.

Thank You for loving us, Lord.
