Something Dark and Foreboding

Proverbs 18:21
New International Version (NIV)

21 The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Abuse is Not Just a Word

Calloused words from calloused lips
Quickly spoken like red hot whips
Pierce through your heart and sear your mind
Throwing every insult that revenge can find

Venomous words from serpent tongues
Turn to poison the moment they’re flung
Killing your spirit and murdering your soul
You’re kidnapped, the victim by total control

Manipulative words from manipulative spirits
Whispered so sweetly like warm maple syrup
Twisting and turning every thought, every notion
Like some hypnotic black magic potion

So listen up quickly and listen up good
Lock away your hearts like a pirate would
Tie them up tightly in heavy long chains
Safely locked away from the words that would maim

Father,

Only in You do we find a safe haven, a strong tower, and refuge from trouble. Only in You can we realize our true value and worth. The world is full of tongues speaking violence and turmoil. Hearts filled with anguish seeking to kill. Let us not heed the words of the abusers. Be with us each and every moment and guard our hearts for in You is light and life.

Thank You, Lord. Amen!
