Don’t Hamper Your Scamper

Scampering Lizard

Luke 18:15-17
New International Version (NIV)

The Little Children and Jesus

15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

Scamper(especially of a small animal or child) run with quick light steps, especially through fear or excitement.

Why do we scamper? What do we scamper for? What is it that we run after with joy or run from in fear? Why do we scamper?

We’re always scampering. We run after promotions, new cars, big houses…something. It might be something in the physical world or maybe we long for love or power or prestige? We all run for something. That is the nature of life, of this race we run. I’m not suggesting that we shouldn’t run for something, we should, but what is it and what will we gain, if we manage to acquire it?

Why do we scamper?

Maybe we just scamper from fear? We need “this much” of “this” to be sure that “this” won’t happen? How much is enough? What is the cost? What will we lose as we spend the time to acquire what we think we need? Are we running from something that we don’t need to run from in the first place?

Why do we scamper?

Why indeed?

Father,

We are running our race for some reason. Help us to see what it is that we truly need and to pursue that with great excitement and trust. You are with us. You are our hope and our provider. May we have hearts that scamper only after You.

Thank You, for welcoming us as Your children.

Amen!
