New International Version (NIV)
“they are before the throne of God
and serve him day and night in his temple;
and he who sits on the throne
will shelter them with his presence.
‘Never again will they hunger;
never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat down on them,’
nor any scorching heat.
For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’”
I love a good snack. I love them too much. My waistline is a testament to my conviction that snacks are a marvelous thing. Now snacks don’t have to be a bad thing, buuuut they can be. When snacks are nutritious and see us through to our next meal, that’s not a bad thing. When they are composed of “junk” food that eventually wreak our health, then that’s another thing all together.
There are other kinds of snacks on our daily menu also. We don’t think about them as often. What we see and hear and feel. The world is full of “messages”. Little tidbits on our plates about what to think and what to feel. Everywhere we turn someone is trying to grab our attention. There’s nothing wrong with that at all, but we have to be as careful about what we snack on intellectually and spiritually. As with food for the body, we become what we eat.
Today, what will you eat? What will you watch? What will you read?
What will you become?
Open our hearts, our minds, our bodies to consume only what is good for us. There are many “gods” vying for our attention. A small thought here, a small word there and before long we are a person we did not plan to be. Protect us, Lord. Give us eyes that see and ears that hear only the pure, only the good, only the best.
Thank You, Father. In You is only grace. An everlasting, ever flowing, ever satisfying fountain of love.
Be with us all today. Help us to heal the sick, feed the hungry, and guide the lost.
Amen and amen!
