The Bottle

Bottle cropped

Ephesians 4:26
New International Version (NIV)

26 “In your anger do not sin”, Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,

The Bottle

There is a bottle I keep with me
Its contents I hold quite dear
The outside is gilded and bejeweled
Its inside filled with fear

I try my best to keep it corked
For it holds a terrible storm
But sometimes I lose all control
And things can get quite warm

The fragrance when it opens up
Drifts up and takes o’er my mind
My tongue then says a million things
All mean and far from kind

And if it should perhaps to fall
And break upon the floor
I find I’ve lost the very ones
I worshiped and adored

I try and try when the rage dies down
To apologize and restart
But even if they should forgive
It fails to mend their hearts

Oh, little bottle filled with wrath
Please stay inside of me
Or better yet I ask and pray
Please Lord set me free

Please search out the corners of our hearts and cleanse us of all the old hurts and fears. Free us from our pride and set us free from all anger and revenge.

In Jesus’ name, Amen!
